Ohio State recruiting: 2016 DB Patrice Rene high on Buckeyes after offer

Last summer, class of 2016 defensive back Patrice Rene stated to Land-Grant Holy Land that having a chance to suit up and play for Urban Meyer, Kerry Coombs, and Ohio State would mean the world to him. Almost one year later, Rene now has that very opportunity, as the Bucks dished out a scholarship offer to the 6'1, 180 pound Ontario, Canada native while out on the road scouting during the live period last month.

"Ohio State offered me at the Sound Mind Sound Body Camp. Coach Coombs was the one that first broke the news to me, after one-on-one drills. Coach Coombs says he likes me a lot and really wants to be able to have me in his secondary. Then I got the chance to meet Coach Meyer, and he said that I had a place at Ohio State," Rene told Land-Grant Holy Land during a recent interview.

"To have an offer from Ohio State feels amazing. I honestly feel blessed of this opportunity that was given to me. When I think of Ohio State football, I think of tradition, winning, and most importantly a great coaching staff," the four-star prospect added on his recent offer from OSU.

Just months shy of starting his junior year in high school, Patrice is still years away from playing on the college level, but that doesn't mean he isn't starting to think about what university he would like to attend down the line.

"I would say that Ohio State would be on the top of my list if I had one, but I still think it's early. Ohio State is a powerhouse in college football, and to me that puts them at the top with some others," said Rene, who will attend Friday Night Lights on the OSU campus later this month. "Some other teams that stick out at the moment are Indiana, Syracuse, and Rutgers. Those programs have all offered me and I love all they have to offer so far. Also Michigan, Michigan State, and Notre Dame are schools that stand out, and that I've been in contact with a lot. They haven't offered, but I'm very confident that it will come."

A lot of high profiled recruits want to wait until National Signing Day to announce what program they will attend; not Rene. He already has a plan in mind when he would like to end his recruitment and give a school a pledge, but in the meantime, he's trying to find the right overall fit.

"I would like to commit to a program right after my junior year. So, early in the off season. The things that I'm looking for would definitely be how the coaching staff is, how they interact with their players. Also, I'm looking at the depth chart to get an idea of who's ahead of me, and also who they have coming in; with that brings the idea of playing time. I want to go to a school where I can play early. And finally, academic and life after football. I want to be able to attend a school where I know that I am set for life, and can excel on and off the field."

According to his comments from July, 2014 he was looking to commit to his school of choice soon after his junior season and he had OSU on top.

If he still feels that way, this could be a huge visit and maybe Rene should be placed on commitment watch?

(Assuming he is an automatic take for the Buckeyes and not a guy they want to see compete in camp this summer.)

I think he definitely is...top 10 corner for '16 imo.
