Sources: South Florida Coach Jim Leavitt Struck Player

TAMPA, Fla. -- University of South Florida coach Jim Leavitt grabbed a player by the throat then struck him twice in the face during halftime of the Bulls' Nov. 21 game with Louisville, the player's father, his high school coach and five members of USF's football program told FanHouse.

The incident involved sophomore walk-on Joel Miller that stemmed from Leavitt being upset over Miller's first-half mistake on special teams, according to witnesses. Leavitt, who was out of town Monday recruiting, would not comment specifically about the incident when reached on his cell phone.

Cont'd ...

May well be legit but it seems odd it took over 3 weeks for this to come out. Hitting a player with multiple witnesses?

USF's Jim Leavitt Fired

For "mistreatment of players". Being reported on Sportscenter. I'm sure articles are to follow.

He built that program from the ground up. The pussification of sports continues unabated...

WOW! I still remember them beating WVU in a big game in Tampa last season.

One wonders what on earth he did?

South Florida Bulls fire coach Jim Leavitt, source says - ESPN

Florida defensive line coach Dan McCarney, former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville, who has strong ties in the state of Florida from his tenure on Miami's coaching staff, and Michigan offensive coordinator Calvin Magee are expected to be candidates to replace Leavitt, a source told ESPN.com's Ivan Maisel.
I thought they wanted to continue to build the program in a positive direction. The text in bold seems to contradict that sentiment ...
