USC Trojans (official thread)

On another issue, read/heard that USC/Xichigan were both considering leaving the B10 due to this $2.2B equity thing. Might not be a bad thing that USC goes independent, might get their own network deal (being in the SoCal market). Don't recollect why USC asked to join B10 (UCLA is/was broke in athletic department), so the big money was an issue? B10 money was about +$40-50M more than P12, but never have heard USC was hurting for much of anything. Anyone else got a read on this?
I mean $50 million is $50 million. Why not. They just want to get what they think they’re worth.

This is a far bigger fish than the TV money: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Ten_Academic_Alliance

BTAA is worth BILLIONS. USC leaving it won't hurt much but TCUN walking away from that kind of money is hilariously short-sighted by them.

The alliance doesn’t necessarily bring additional money into each school, it’s more doing collaborative research but keeping their money separate. It could bring more research dollars by noting the collaborating schools to juice their application when pursuing research grants.

So outside of USC, no real changes does NIL make...
All USC does is replace a team like Clemson or Oklahoma. CFB's talent gap will only widen with the same schools
Not to single you out because you weren’t the only one who believed this, as this was a common talking point when NIL became mainstream and “normalized “ about his USC and ucla would clean house because they’re in La. USC even made a “splash” hire and still hasn’t done much.

I do think they’re leading recruiting rankings so far this year but I don’t even check those until about a week or so before signing day anymore.

Very true. This year they do have the current #1 class, but they will need that class from day 1. They landed some big time recruits last cycle, and it hasn’t helped Riley win the big games still. And I’ve said this on multiple threads, but paying top dollar from HSers, and forcing them to play big early is a recipe for disaster. If your best players are the18 and 19yos making 7 figures in LA(or anywhere for that matter), then good luck.

They’ll have to close that class too. There are rumblings that Riley wants out and that the feeling is mutual.

Hello All, heard from USC alum that they don't feel like they're getting their 'Moses' worth from Riley (he'll lead them to the Promised Land). Sooo, if one is hearing that noise, then in all probability he'll jump ship to one of the big SEC jobs available. Although, I'd negotiate a severance package with the ADs to equate to a 'non-fire', but receive some big money to leave. Franklin reportedly got some huge $ to leave PSU, but do believe each and every coaching contract has the clause 'payout is x, but if you get another job, the payout is net of what your next gig is.....(clearly not in legalese, but you get the drift). Anyway, the net is that with the VaTech offer, PSU won't be out the megabucks advertised. Guess I'm saying that if the feeling is mutual, negotiate some millions you can keep after swinging from one grapevine to the next one....
