USC could get injured players for ND

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Southern California appears to be getting healthy at the best possible time.

Several injured Trojans, including quarterback John David Booty and leading rusher Stafon Johnson, expressed optimism Wednesday concerning their availability for this weekend's game at Notre Dame.

Well, things aren't off to a great start:

MICHIGAN CITY, Ind. -- USC players, coaches and supporters aboard the team's charter flight from Los Angeles endured a harrowing arrival in South Bend, Ind., on Thursday night.

Several players, administrative staff and coaches' spouses said passengers were hurled out of their seats and hit their heads on the ceiling when the plane dropped while making an approach through a lightning storm. The pilot aborted the approach and circled before landing without incident, said Dennis Slutak, USC's director of football operations.

As far as injuries go...

Booty is back, but Carroll hasn't announced a starter.
Baker will suit, but only play in an emergency.
Rachal, Cushing, Johnson, and Maualuga can all play, but whether they will start is up in the air.

That story isn't particularly kind to Taylor Mays:
From the more readily accessed Yahoo version - (no reg required)
Some passengers were thrown from their seats by turbulence as lightning crackled around the storm-tossed plane, USC sports information director Tim Tessalone told The Associated Press on Friday. Safety Taylor Mays was screaming.

Glad to hear that they (for the most part) got on the ground safely.

That was a huge storm front that blew through the Mid-West last night.

I really don't think Notre Dame will come away with a win, but I definitely think it will be a lot closer than the 20.5 point spread. Notre Dame is terrible this year, but teams play certain teams extremely tough year in and year out. USC has not impressed me at all this year. Not even in the Nebraska game. I can't wait till some of these Pac 10 teams start playing out of conference schools with some defense and we'll see them get shut down.

I don't know what would yield more belly laughs...watching 'Dumb and Dumber' or watching the Irish on offense. Maybe they should try Zbikowjlknjkhjbki at QB.

BTW, those uni's are hideous. I nearly vomited when I flipped over to the game momentarily.
