Coleman missed the Indiana game due to a Big Ten suspension for a helmet-to-helmet hit in the Illinois game.

Oh that's right, I remember Tressel commenting on it now. Totally slipped my mind!

I'm with you, I thought the refs were shafting the Trojans.

For all you guys that are complaining over the calls the ref's gave against USC in South Bend...FYI, ND doesn't have their own refs, not even at home. They use Big East for replay only, the refs for this game were from PAC-10. So, the only time ND would get shady officiating their way would be through a suspicious replay call. This was more directed towards MaxBuck, however...

If you think you're going to get any breaks from the referees when you're playing ND in South Bend, you're beyond stupid.

Kinda funny how ND uses the Big East for replay when their football team isn't a part of their conference, just their other sports.

If I had the choice between the two on a football team though I would definitely take Mays, for the intangibles he brings to the defense. Like you said people just don't throw near him, and it allows USC's defense to do things it otherwise wouldn't. I am not looking forward to not having him next year.

Give me Coleman if I'm starting a team. He's better in coverage - sorry, but it's true - he can bring the wood more than well enough (not as much as Mays, but above-average hitting is enough for me), he's good against the run, causes more turnovers, and is a great leader.

Basically, I take Coleman because he's better in coverage. :p

I don't think Coleman's a bad pick, just personal preference. Mays is a hell of a leader for our team, a huge defensive leader and the fastest guy on our team.

I'm glad you brought up the run, because it's one of the main things I love about Mays. He is awesome against the run, and again it's where that speed comes into play.

I'm actually glad you brought this up.

We know that Pac-10 refs are bad... hell, everybody knows it. But the strange thing is that with USC, they seem to be actively trying to prove they're not biased by over-penalizing USC and helping out their opponents.

There is something strange statistically going on... for some reason, year-in and year-out USC is the most-penalized team in the Pac-10. That might scream "dirty play" but when you add in the fact that USC's opponents, regardless of who they are, are somehow also the LEAST penalized when they play against us, it starts to add up as something else completely.

Also, the Big East replay refs were actually smart enough to overrule basically everything that came up to them from the crappy Pac-10 refs, because they were AWFUL calls. It's just a shame more wasn't up for review.

He's a boss. That was a nice play. I wouldn't mind the 49ers taking him with one of their first-rounders next year if he's there. Probably won't be. Maybe they'll get Coleman.

Can't go wrong with either. Mays has seemed like a pretty cool dude in some of the interviews I've seen with him too.

Interesting point. I know some people have pointed out that refs can sometimes be biased towards the home team regardless if they're not part of their conference. For instance, if PAC-10 called too much on the Irish, it could have drawn too many boo's and then prompted one university to call for an investigation. There could be some merit to that.

I'd say right now Coleman would be more deserving, sure, especially based on stats. The guy is having an incredible year.

They don't have to since the guy he's supposed to be covering is usually running wide open down the middle of the field. :p
