Tiger has started bogey, bogey, bogey. Got a sand save on the fourth to stop the bleeding.

Phil's in the clubhouse at even par 70, one behind Monty.

Bo Van Pelt just made his third straight birdie to get the lead at -2.

Tiger finished the front nine at +5. He's hit one fairway and 3 greens.

Dan Patrick was talking about the fact that Rick Reilly picked David Toms to win this weekend. Toms shot a 9-over-par 79 today.

I'd like to see Bjorn's 368-yard drive. Hopefuly that will make the highlights tonight.

DP asked Farrety (sp?) what he thought of the tough course...

"It's kind of like going to a nascar race where you know every single car will crash... and it comes down to who has the fastest tow truck."

Van Pelt will eventually fade maybe not today but he will if he keeps on missing greens (GIR 36%) and fairways (38% in). His putting is keeping him
in the hunt 1.11 putts per hole.

Tiger is just hitting 1 out of 5 fairways and his putting has been brutal.

Hale Irwin won the Open at Winged Foot in '74 with I believe 7 over par. The late Dick Schapp (sp?) wrote a very good book about that year's tourney "Massacre at Winged Foot." It is a very good read and chronicles the tournament from the players and galleries perspective. He also talks about how the USGA felt they had to get even based on Johnny Miller's touching of Oakmont (he shot a final round 63) the year earlier. If you can find the book it is a good read.....

David Howell is impressive early, as is Monty. Not surprised to see Tiger struggle, but he battled, and I think he'll be around the top 25 again.

I am surprised to see the big numbers of Toms and Goosen, however.

Tiger's +4 through the first 7 holes today, +10 overall. The cut is the first 60 plus ties, and everybody within 10 strokes of the lead.

I'd say Tiger can not afford anything above +8 if he wants to see the weekend.

Rough start for Jiminez today...+2 through 5.

Stricker in the lead at -2 although he started on the back nine again today and played great, but the front nine gave him problems yesterday. He's gone par/birdie on 1/2 so far.

I'm also guessing +8 for the cut at this point. Somebody will finish at -2 today, and there should be at least 60 guys within 10 strokes of that.

totally agree...

#1 is still proving to be the toughest hole and green...4.594 avg score and 2.03 avg putts.

Hitting the fairways is so important and Tiger hit as many on the back nine this morning as he did all day yesterday.

Only three guys under par so far today...Stricker, Tommy Armour III and Chad Collins are all at -1. Nice round being turned in by Pernice after struggling yesterday.

Tiger bogeyed #4 to fall to +10.
