US Airways Plane Crash in the Hudson River

The pilot deserves all the credit in the world for averting disaster. Not only did he keep a cool head after suddenly losing both engines, but he managed to glide a clumsy airliner down in the water in one piece and keep it above the surface. He is reported to have personally made two sweeps of the passenger cabin before exiting the plane.

Chesley Sullenberger, known as "Sully," the pilot of the US Airways plane that crashed into the Hudson River is being hailed as a hero for successfully landing the plane without any major injuries or fatalities.

A former Air Force fighter pilot, "Sully" was lauded by New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg, who hailed Sullenberger's actions as "masterful,"

CHESLEY SULLENBERGER, US AIRWAYS PILOT, HERO OF PLANE CRASH

On an infinitely lamer note, I caught some of Michael Savage's show while running errands tonight, and he decided to use the incident as an excuse for a rant against affirmative action, insinuating that had the pilot been a minority, the accident would have resulted in multiple deaths. At one point he stated that when he boards a plane he hopes to "peek in to the cockpit and see an old white guy with blue eyes". Leave it to Savage to turn an inspiring story into an opportunity to promote his personal prejudices.

Never, ever fly out of LaGuardia! The runway is too short and you could end up going for a swim!

The longest runway at Chicago-Midway (~6000') is still 15% shorter than the distances at LaGuardia (~7000').

Given the volume of traffic through NY's two airports and severe weather conditions LGA operates under for virtually half the year, its safety record is really outstanding. Of the five previous crashes involving major airlines in the past 60 years at LGA prior to this one, four of them were caused by ice or snow.

Terrorist bombings in the TWA baggage claim at LGA have killed more people than short runways have.

So in 6 months or so, when they all have Hep C or AIDS from being stuck in the leg with a floating, dirty needle, so they sue NYC or the airline company?

When it comes to lawsuits, 'or' is not the conjunction; 'and' is.

NY City, New York State, New Jersey, Airbus, US Airways, the US Government, etc.

Tebow to the rescue!

Behold the power of Tim!

That's just Tebow hating bullshit....

Tim would have landed on a runway as softly as a baby kitten falling in a pile of cotton balls, with no damage, and no injuries, having brought them all to a greater spiritual connection...so the picture is an obvious fake. :paranoid:

no... Tebow would have climbed out of the cockpit, brought the birds back to life that got sucked in the engine, then he would have sat on top of the plane and flapped his arms up and down to power it and then completed the flight.... there never would have been a "emergency landing".
