Urban in the Sugar Bowl

Urban went for the kill. It's celebrated every time it works. Guys that choke you over a game of checkers don't always make cool, calculated decisions. Sometimes they just try to bite your adams apple out for looking crosseyed at them. Saban looked vulnerable so Urbs tried to end him.
Then go for the kill shot to a guy who can make that catch. Spencer is quite weak at 50/50 balls.

1. 1st and goal on the two, first and goal on the one, and the Bucks never leave the shotgun, go empty backfield on at least four of the plays. Score only 6 points. Why not at least one or two attempts with Cardale under center? Is this a part of the playbook that was taken out when JT went down?

I was following Ari Wasserman on twitter during the Alabama game and asked this same question...he replied as someone else did...tOSU had not run a play with the QB under center ALL YEAR.

With a 260 lb. QB, it just makes too much sense to have THAT kind of play in the playbook.

Did you notice for the Oregon game.....it was suddenly part of the playbook? :sneaky:

Yes and not just on the goal line... but I wouldn't compare Oregon's defense with Alabama's.

It also wasn't very effective. Sure, Ohio State was about 3/3 from that formation (as far as getting the first down or touchdown). But they also attempted to convert some fourth downs from the shotgun formation and were just as successful (I can remember at least 2 they got from shotgun - there was the run/pass to Marshall and the hand-off to Elliot). And there was the one they ran on the goal line from under center where Jones was stuffed, and he had to do a spin-move to get into the endzone, and then there's the play we all remember where he was stuffed, pulled back, and ran around the edge.

I think that a good quarterback sneak is a very important play to have in the playbook, but it seems that Ohio State has done a pretty good job without it.

Give me the guy (Urban) who gets this and I'll live with the occasional missteps that come from it

The previous guy (Tress) was quite successful but did not, imo, get this and it was the fundamental source of my frustration
