Urban F. Meyer (Former OSU, CFB and NFL coach)

Seems pretty clear that it was a terribly stressful situation with Smith, and he doesn't want to have it hanging over him everyday with the school board and the school with future decisions he makes when he doesn't need to handle it.
I think that's just an assumption a lot of people are making....and I don't really know why. If he loves Ohio State the way evidence suggests that he does....the whole suspension thing wouldn't even be a blip on the radar. Yeah, it was bullshit. Yeah, I'd be pissed too. But you got to come back, it was over, and you're getting paid a shit ton of money to do what you love, where you love to do it. All of that is bigger than a spat with your bosses. What isn't bigger is a health issue that gets worse with high stress.

I'm not saying I'd personally be angry if he took another job somewhere else. I'm saying I understand why that impacts Ohio State fans.

I think it's very possible he left for multiple reasons. I also think he has an established pattern of needing a 'break' for health reasons.
And it was about that time. He's only choosing another school over Ohio State if he takes a job somewhere else while we're offering.
I would be surprised if he never took another job, and i wouldnt hold it against him if he went to USC... but i think it's more likely he takes a job like Bruce at CSU. A low stress kind of place.
Somewhere they can pay him a retirement stipend and he can decline to do the fundraising circuit. Just focus on his favorite part... the kids, local HS recruiting, etc.
Less of a pressure cooker, but he can still create a dominant program.

The dude steps down from his #1 dream job after handing TFUN their worst loss in The Series (technically, Ohio State's 38-0 win in 1935 was bigger margin-wise, but this was the biggest statement-wise), won the B1G title, and won the Rose Bowl, the bowl game in which he always wanted to head-coach and win. Aside from not having a prefect record and not winning the natty, this was about the best final season he could possibly have. Other than a sizeable bump in salary, he gains virtually nothing by returning to coaching.

What he gains by returning to coaching is retuning to coaching. Dude loves coaching, so if he returns, it is because he burns for it again.

If the dude returns to coaching after his health scares and what he accomplished at Ohio State, than it's not simply his "burning for it again"...it's borderline pathological.

True. Obviously I have ZERO clue what he will do, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he coached again. One of the reasons he is so damn good at coaching is that he is maniacal about it. Again, I just hope he is happy and healthy with whatever he does. I’ve grown pretty fond of the dude.

Fortunately, it looks like he's having a blast on the set at Fox, plus having the chance to spend more time with his family (someone had posted a photo of him with his grandkid and you could tell he was just loving it) and just being overall at ease. The dude deserves to live a simpler life now.

Re: “Three months ago, I had a problem,” Meyer said. “What if I’m sitting here in October and I can’t stand what I’m doing? But I love what I’m doing. My family loves what I’m doing and those are really the only people who matter to me.”

I don't think he'll ever coach again as long as he's happy with what he is doing. However, the only school that I could see him coaching at would be Notre Dame.

Never said he did. But the answer to the question of why Ohio State fans would care is obvious. They'd care because it's a direct statement.....I didn't want to keep coaching your team.

"I don't want to coach for a school where the president is more concerned with PR than doing right by me," however, is a perfectly fine reason to leave. And as said by @Telekinesis, the high road is a fine route to take when you care more for an organization than some of the people at the top of it.

I personally would like to see him continue doing what he's doing. He's quite a personality and a perfect fit for what he's doing. That said, should he chose to coach anywhere in the country not in AA, I'd be fine with it.

Once you lose trust it's hard to ever feel the same again. Your 'blip' may have been a much bigger deal to him. And at the end of the day, it's his opinion that matters.

This. I think loyalty is a big thing to Urban, but it's gotta be a two way street. If I felt I had done what was required of me wrt to Zsmith bullshit and gave my heart and soul to the program, and then to just be thrown under the bus - I would make a plausible excuse and get the hell out. My imo, that is what happened.
