Defense still wins Championships
Well, now that it's set up, perhaps we can do some discussion on the game...
I'm as excited as the next college football fanatic to see these teams match up. It should make for a great game and I can't wait to watch it. I'm somewhat turned off, however, by the way they're already hyping this game. The ABC crew was talking about how it was the most anticipated matchup ever and that none of them could remember looking forward to such an intriguing Championship game.
The funny thing is that they were all saying the exact same thing last year, that USC vs. OU would be the greatest national championship game ever because they were the teams with multiple Heisman candidates and had so much talent and everyone wanted to see that matchup (we all know how that turned out). Fast forward to 2005 and it's the exact same scenario. Now I know it's their job to hype the game to get ratings up, but I found it... odd that they would say this in light of last year's debacle (and I wonder if they'll be saying the same thing next year and the year after that...)
IMO, the ideal scenario would be for Reggie Bush to win the Heisman, then Vince Young and Texas can come out and win the National Championship. Then the ONE-TIME defending national champs can get their streak snapped and hopefully Vince has done enough to warrant him forgoing his senior season, setting up an OSU win in Austin in 2006...
Oh, and OSU vs Miami was the greatest BCS National Championship game, so they're gonna be fighting for #2
