UFOs and the existence of other life

Let me preface this by saying I never did well in physics. In my simple little mind, M-theory is basically a new form of String Theory. I saw a special on it a couple of months ago on PBS and it was pretty interesting. What stuck with me is that scientists now believe there are 11 dimensions and we may have multiple parallel solar systems and more. It really sounded like science fiction as they were theorizing there may be worlds where Hitler won WWII. Really crazy stuff.

Interesting read. Thanks.

Anyone who thinks we're alone is the wacko. Our own galaxy has between 100-400 billion stars. The estimated number galaxies is over 100 billion. If you were to calculate that out, that would equate to more than one star per grain of sand on the planet (beaches, dunes, desert, etc.). Most stars have multiple planets. To think this planet is the only one with life is moronic.

I completely agree with you there is no way we are the only planet with any form of life on it. Eventually we will find one especially since our space program is still in it's infancy. I was reading on the front page of road runner the other day that they have found a "sea of ice" on the southern pole of mars that is roughly the size of earth's northern sea.

Not so crazy if time and the universe are truly infinite (no beginning or end). Every possibility would therefore have occurred infinitely and will occur infinitely. That would mean not only is there another planet exactly like earth, but an infinite amount of earths. There would also be an infinite amount of douchebags just like me out there typing this exact same response on an infinite number of BP open discussion forums.

I've always figured that these alien encounters weren't really aliens at all. They are us coming back from a future version of us to check us out. But what the hell do I know.

I've always been intrigued by that theory. Have you read Sphere by Michael Crichton? I read that when I was a youngin' and the book was premised on a crashed UFO really being humans who travelled back in time. It was interesting as hell.

oooops! Sorry my double post kinda screwed up the quote there.

Anyway, I just always figured that was the most logical reason for intelligent life to be checking up on us. But when you start talking about infinite possibilities, everything is not just possible, but is. Is that makes sense.

can someone transport me to the galaxy/star/planet system that has Alan married to Ashley Judd as quickly as possible.....thanks....
I will, but you may not like it much. In that alternate system TGII chose USC and Ashley Judd roots like hell for Miami whenever she isn't rooting for Michigan.

Interesting timing as the History Channel had a program this afternoon on the history of UFO sitings. Basically, the astronomers they interviewed were of the opinion that life probably exists on another planet, but it has not visited Earth. Someone earlier mentioned how many stars and potential planets exist in the universe. Because of this significantly large number and the distance between stars, the astronomers felt it was highly improbable that the other life form would have a) located life on our planet and b) actually visited.

Personally, I am of the opinion that we are the only "intelligent" life in the universe (based on my religious beliefs, which says we are unique--i.e. created in the image of God).

UFOs as a money maker.

I'm not quite sure what I believe in regard to aliens but there certainly is a lot of money to be made in peddling the idea of aliens. Have any of you on been to Roswell, New Mexico? I've passed through the town twice and they are certainly cashing in big on the whole craze. Oh, the wonders of American capitalism!

If one considers the beginning of time to be the Big Bang, then if time is infinite (and infinite in only one direction) the universe will have a cold dark ending. Your second and third sentences seem to be indicating that at this precise point in time, there are an infinite number of possibilities that could occur. In this existence (universe), I have decided to reply to this thread; in another I did not. The idea of multiple universes (an infinite number of universes if you will) has been around for several years. I remember discussing it with profs at OSU during the 1980's.

the ufo's are actually the future inhabitants of earth who have lost the ability to reproduce and have come back through time to rediscover this ability
Losing the ability to reproduce...man that sound like a sci-fi horror flick.

Because of this significantly large number and the distance between stars, the astronomers felt it was highly improbable that the other life form would have a) located life on our planet and b) actually visited.
Not to slam the astronomers on the program, as I am sure that they are very respected, but this type of thinking is too confined to our experiences and our progress as a species. For me, the problem with saying the distances are so vast (and they are mind boggling vast) that it is highly improbable that anyone has visited us leaves out the possibility of another life form having a few million years on us in the evolutionary sense. In circa 100 years, our species has gone from that first brief flight at Kitty Hawk to landing men on the moon to sending a probe past the orbit of Pluto to landing a probe (and sending back pictures) from a moon orbiting one of our outer planets. I would say imagine where we will be in 1000 or 100,000 years, but I think it may be unimaginable.

Personally, I am of the opinion that we are the only "intelligent" life in the universe (based on my religious beliefs, which says we are unique--i.e. created in the image of God).
The probability of us being the only intelligent life form in the universe is infinitesimally small due to the number of galaxies and the number of stars in each galaxy.

I like how everyone agrees that there has to be other life in the universe based on its vastness and expanse, yet no one knows what causes life to arise anywhere. If there were a purely scientific proof of the origins of life, that would be one thing. There ain't.

UFO's are most likely manned by extra-dimensional beings based on the observed physics of various sightings. UFO's and these visitors have been recorded by the Mayans, Alexander the Great's armies, WW II fighter pilots, etc....
