UF on the ropes vs. Vandy

1 versus 2 on the way.
Actually, that raises an interesting question - does this loss erode Florida's #1 ranking in a significant fashion? And, if erosion occurs who is the major beneficiary?
(I doubt that Florida will be anything other than #1 when the new polls are released, and the Buckeyes have to hold serve against the Gophers so this weekend is far from over).
My guess is that any first place votes lost by the Gators become regionally distributed - which likely means a diminished impact for Matta's squad.

i don't think that there will be unanimity among the polls for the top-3 spots. while i think that florida and possibly wisky (as well as ucla and perhaps another program or two) are currently better teams than ohio state, i won't be surprised to see at least one of the various polls having ohio state and wisky as the number one and number two teams. specifically, i think that the cbs sportsline poll will have the bucks and the badgers ranked on top, considering that the game is on cbs. of course, this poll is not a major poll (ap, coaches, rpi).

the ranking doesn't matter. the loss may matter, however. if florida loses another game or two, they will be in danger of losing a top seed. that depends on other factors, too. there are always other factors.

The loss being at Vandy vice being at home will somewhat diminish the damage...still, the fact that Florida was outscored by 21 points (78-57) from the 15:00 mark in the first half to just inside 2 minutes left in the game, by an unranked team, will hurt. Then again, a certain #2-ranked team has climbed in the rankings despite letting mediocre teams outscore them by 20+ in the second half while still winning...
