Wow, what a great finish by Silva to put Spain on top 1-0. Balotelli is going to get carded, probably by halftime.

Brilliant through ball by Iniesta, but Fabregas did just as good to beat Chiellini & find Silva. Wonderful goal.

It is unfortunate Germany can't beat Italy in matches that matter because the Spaniards are threatening to run away with this one.

Great midfield run for the 2-0 lead.

Another brilliant goal. Jordi Alba made a hell of a run from the back to get in such good position, but once again, it's the clinical through ball (this time from Xavi) that set's it all up. Looks like Jordi Alba will fit in perfectly at Barcelona next season.

Italy uses all of its subs then loses a guy to injury. Sometimes, it's just not your day. Hard to imagine any way Spain loses this one.

Finally got around to watching an ESPN3 replay of the match. What a demolition. I don't know if they are the greatest international side ever. Certainly the greatest of my lifetime. I'm only 31 though and I wouldn't dare try to compare them to the great run Brazil made a few generations ago.

I thought Balotelli was a petulant child once again in defeat. I had started to gain a little respect for him with his performance in the semifinal, but he squandered it with the way he stormed off the pitch and into the dressing room at the end. I guess somebody went in there and told him to get his ass back out there, cuz you could see him saunter back out for the medal presentation. Losing sucks, but show some damn respect for the winning team, the supporters, the competition and your teammates. Accept the result with some grace, and pout when you get on the bus or get home.

EDIT: ...Not that the man gives a shit what I think of him or anybody else thinks of him.
