Exactly. Croatia should have scored about 5 minutes before that with the nice chip to an open midfielder for a mean volley, which just went wide.

Luka Modric looked decent, but too passive. The one time he got a good look at goal, his shot sailed straight to Given. I'd like to see him put a little more pressure on the central defense of Ireland.

I'm not saying the clear attempt wasnt abismal, because it was. But come on who the F goes 5 yards in offside position (not saying he's offsides) and is waiting for that ball. THAT is luck

Luck? Or fitting the exact description of a poacher? He may have been lucky to be on the receiving end of such a garbage clearance, but there was no luck about that finish. Let's face it, this Croatian squad is too strong for Ireland. And unfortunately, this group is much too strong for Ireland. I feel bad for the draw that they got, but when it comes to the Euros, there are no easy paths.......................

Oh come on. This has nothing to do with who's better. We're talking about the lucky goal. If he catches the ball a little better, he doesn't have a chance to score, but unfortunately, it didnt happen that way. And the Croatians got lucky for a goal.

Sorry that I don't agree with you. But I know you're a big soccer fan TooTall, you should know better than to start bashing on a team just because of a single play, and half for that matter

Really? When one team gets a ton of chances the percentages rise that a ball will bounce their way. You call it luck b/c you are referring to the one ball and b/c you want to believe in Ireland's chances. I say it isn't luck b/c sustained offensive pressue will create these types of chances. The more chances you get the better the probability you put it in the net.

That goal was NOT a result of luck, but rather a result of Ireland repeatedly being unable to clear the ball and retain possession.

Not bashing by any means. Was simply saying, it was a horrid clearance that led to a nice finish. Unfortunate and more unlucky for Ireland, than luck for Croatia. They don't need a whole lot of it.


Ironic, were talking about luck in a game involving the Irish. :biggrin:
