UEFA Champions League (Official Thread)

Well Celtic fans, you fought hard at home just like I thought you would. Hope you all can pull out the UEFA parachutte and not crash out of European competition competely. I was looking forward to seeing the United youth squad for the last 2 rounds. Oh well, still no doubts that we are of to the knockout rounds.

Own goal by Arsenal in '29 in Stamford Bridge... Chelsea has looked great against the lesser teams this year in the Premier League, but has been onlly ok against the top 4. Chelsea should have beat Roma on Wed. to qualify for the next round of the Champs league, but shat the bed late to tie...

Go on Chelsea!

Can't believe we shat the bed against Aalborg. Pisses me off.

Celtic are just snake-bitten on the road. They don't travel well because they rarely have to travel. The only thing they can hope for is Villireal to rest everybody and hope United stomp Aalborg at Old Trafford. It doesn't look very good for them making the drop to the Uefa Cup. Hold out hope that United want blood from the Dutch side.

I don't see how even if Man U destroys Aalborg, Celtic can sneak into the Cup. Am I missing something....

uefa.com?-?UEFA Champions League?-?Standings

Well right now they have an identical goal difference. If Celtic were to win against Villireal and United beat Ablborg, Celtic could move level on points and have a better goal difference thus taking the 3rd spot in the group. Same reason United is in first place in the group while being level on points.

It will be interesting to see who Sir Alex decides to play at the back for Man U against Inter tommorow. Ferdinand seems to be the only healthy center back available following the suspension of Vidic and injuries to Jon O'Shea and Wes Brown. Man U are also without Johnny Evans and Gary Neville at the back but could have to rely on playing Rafael da Silva back from injury and a hampered O'Shea if he's able to pass fitness test.

Liverpool's up 2-0 over Real Madrid at the break. Torres got a goal after the defender fell down and Torres got a return pass (it looked like Torres's hand on the shoulder helped the defender go down, but no call).

Their second goal came on a Gerrard PK after a hand-ball in the box call. A crossing pass was headed down, right into the defender's shoulder (only a foot or two away). But the defender was raising his arm at the time, and was called for the hand-ball. Looking at it live I called out PK, but after seeing the replay, it shouldn't have been called; it was a real break for Liverpool.

Gerrard just scored early in the second half, 3-0, good night.
