UConn donor demands return of $3M donation, then allows them to keep it

Agreed re: Terry's. It's good, but overrated and overpriced. Try Arthur's in Hyde Park instead - they had a fire not to long ago and will hopefully be opening back soon. They have all their burgers on special Sunday-Tuesday.

Will do! Once they re-open I'll give it a shot.
At the recommendation of some of my Co-workers, I also like Zips in Mount Lookout and Oakley Pub (seating is tight here).

Opps forgot Zips. I get the burger and whatever is on tap from the Great Lakes Brewery while my granddaughter enjoys the mac and cheese and watching the train go around.

Awww...

Someone got upset, and is leaving with the ball.

Way to act like a whiny little bitch, Burton.

"Burton says his family and friends will no longer donate for scholarships and coaching clinics, will pull their advertising from the football program and will transfer current scholarships away from football and into the business school.
It couldn't immediately be determined Tuesday how many football players that would affect and whether other scholarship money would be available.
Burton said his company will also start sending its managers to Syracuse University's business school for training instead of UConn, and will no longer pay for its $50,000-per-year luxury suite at Rentschler Field.
"You already have many other empty boxes at Rentschler. My box will just join the list," Burton wrote."

Wow.
Just wow.

Sounds like a 12-year-old having a tantrum.

Burton, go to your timeout!

Heh... it's a good thing BP donors aren't obsessed with special privileges and status. If we started naming forums after people who have donated... we would need many more forums. :)

Sheeeyiiiit, beyatch. I want a "POOWF" (pissed off old white fuckers) forum right now! Chop chop, hoe! And make me a fuckin' sandwich while you're at it...

I bet every AD has been hammerin the phones and buying new lipstick this week.. contacting every one of their #1s.. and probably #1-#10 doing serious butt kissin...

The two top dudes at UConn have been on their knees to Burton all week... they won't let their AD within a 1000 miles of Burton...

It's not the what they did.. it's the how they did it...

"The University of Connecticut football team now enjoys the finest on-campus football facilities in the country - thanks in large part to the building of The Burton Family Football Complex."

You don't bite the hand that feeds you

I'm not saying anyone is right.. and I see both sides as wrong...

I'll say someone is right - UConn - and someone is wrong - the egotistical donor, whose donation was obviously anything but charitable. I'll bet the donor took his tax deduction for the donation, which would be illegal if there was a quid pro quo attached to it (as he seems to suggest by his behavior).

They put his name on the building in recognition, so what exactly did UConn do wrong? The answer is nothing. They don't owe him a hand job every time they have to make a decision in their athletic program.

He wants his money back? Sorry, it's already been spent. But I'd take his name plate off the building and send it to him COD. He needn't bother to request tickets, either. Arrogant fuck.

Next time you donate $7M tell me it's without strings...

The Duke estate is 10 minutes up the road from me... They approached Princeton (10 minutes the other way) and wanted to make a donation... with strings attached... Princeton said no...

And presto, Duke University appeared

Interesting how we forget all the drama with scUM picking a new coach a few years back... because the 'no strings attached' donors had to be appeased... so couple years later, the 'no strings attached' donors demanded a new coach...

I didn't say what the UConn AD did was wrong... but the WAY he did it is as wrong as you get.. If UConn didn't feel that way, the top brass of UConn wouldn't be on their knees in from of Burton right now.. and keeping the AD out of the light

If the University President hadn't been a woman, would he have been satisfied enough with the way he was stroked?

Upset UConn donor letting school keep $3M gift

STORRS, Conn. (AP) -- A donor who demanded the return of $3 million from the University of Connecticut because he was unhappy with the hiring of its new football coach has agreed to let the school keep the money, university officials said Friday.

Robert Burton and the university agreed to move past their differences after UConn Board of Trustees Chairman Larry McHugh met with him and his family, McHugh said in a news release.

"I felt that it was important to pay a visit to them and have a dialogue," McHugh said. "I am very pleased that in a very short period of time he and his family were able to reconnect with UConn, recognizing all the good UConn does for its students and our state."

Burton, chief executive officer of Greenwich, Conn.-based Burton Capital Management, complained in a Jan. 19 letter to UConn athletic director Jeff Hathaway that his opinions were ignored in the process leading to the selection of Paul Pasqualoni as coach. He said he wanted the school to return $3 million in donations and remove his family name from its football complex.

In a statement released by the university, Burton said he reconsidered after university officials including incoming president Susan Herbst reached out to him.

"I have been reflecting on it and came to the conclusion that I'm not going to let one experience change the relationship my family and I have with UConn. We love the university, we're proud of our association with it and it is going to continue," he said.
