UCLA could pay the University of California at Berkeley $10 million a year for three years instead of six as a result of the Bruins' upcoming move to the Big Ten and the demise of the Pac-12.

The University of California Board of Regents special committee on athletics voted 7-1 during a meeting at UC Merced on Tuesday to cut down the length of the payments. UC president Michael Drake recommended six years in a report going into the meeting.

The matter -- nicknamed "Calimony" by UCLA and Cal supporters -- will come up for a vote by the full Board of Regents on Thursday.

If there is a significant change in revenues and/or expenses for either school, exceeding 10% over 2024-25 projections, UCLA's contribution can be reevaluated by the regents.

In order for the Regents to affirm UCLA's move to the Big Ten in December 2022, the university agreed to pay UC Berkeley between $2 million and $10 million because of how the move would affect the Cal athletic program.

The Bruins open up the 2025 season at the Rose Bowl against the Utes and return the favor in 2030 with a trip to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City. The four-game series with Cal features games in Berkley, California in 2026 and 2028 and Los Angeles in 2027 and 2029. UCLA was set to face Georgia in 2025-26 and Auburn in 2027-28 before the programs mutually agreed to cancel the series.

Don’t look now but the UCLA Bruins are surging.
After a very tough 1-5 start it looks like the Bruins have found something with first-year coach DeShaun Foster. When you look at those five losses early in the season, three of them (Indiana, Oregon, Penn State) are top-10 teams. LSU is a top 15 team. Minnesota was the last loss of the bunch and it is a physical team.
UCLA has won three-straight games and now has it rolling to finish off the season. There is still work to be done at 4-5 to make a bowl but games with Washington, USC and Fresno State are up next. A win over rival USC will get the town buzzing about what’s going on with Lincoln Riley but this story is more about what Foster has already instilled in his program.

UCLA Coach Explains Decision to Sign Nico Iamaleava After Departure From Tennessee​

Deshaun Foster spoke to the media about adding Nico Iamaleava for the first time.

Nico Iamaleava officially committed to play football at UCLA last week, returning to his home state after spending his first two seasons of college football at Tennessee. Iamaleava entered the transfer portal after skipping Tennessee's practice the day before the team’s spring game, and coach Josh Heupel announced the following day they planned to move on.

Reports indicated that Iamaleava was looking for a greater NIL deal at Tennessee, but Bruins head coach Deshaun Foster told reporters that returning to California and being closer to family led to Iamaleava choosing to join UCLA. Foster did characterize Iamaleava's NIL deal as a "success," but did not provide any further specifics on the terms.

As for UCLA adding Iamaleava, Foster called the opportunity one the team could not turn down. "Being able to bring in the No. 1 player in the portal, just something we couldn't pass up," Foster said.

“6'6", this is a big guy,” Foster said. “A true competitor. Fiery. Big arm. And then, it’s gonna—keeping the California kids and L.A. kids here, you know? This is a big thing.”



Foster emphasized that Iamaleava is an important addition for the team. For one, he wants to land local talent and recruits, a goal he's emphasized since UCLA hired him as head coach. Bringing in Iamaleava also put a greater spotlight on the Bruins, who are still looking to make their mark in the Big Ten.

“You want to be in conversations, you want to play big-time ball, you want to have haters, you want all of this stuff,” Foster said, “because that means that you’re trending in the right direction. So, if you want to play big-time ball, you can do that here at UCLA. I got a quarterback situation that’s gonna pan out for us.”

By the time Nico Iamaleava stepped onto the field for his final drive of the night late in the fourth quarter of his much-anticipated debut as UCLA's quarterback, the Bruins were down 43-10 and the majority of the fans still left at the Rose Bowl were wearing red, chanting "Let's go Utah!" as if the game were being held in Salt Lake City..... :lol:

It was that kind of night for UCLA. The Bruins had come into the season with the promise of a new start, a new quarterback, a new offense and a reenergized culture in coach Deshaun Foster's second season. Instead, they left their Week 1 matchup searching for answers, unable to avoid the reality of what had transpired.

Foster said that even though little went right on the field Saturday, he was encouraged by the players' attitude in the postgame locker room and their resolve to use the loss as a rock bottom they could rebound from. So did Iamaleava, who attempted to put his and UCLA's sobering opener in perspective.

"Everything we want is still ahead of us. It's Week 1," he said. "Only way is up from here.".....:lol:
