Everybody is somebody else's weirdo.
And you thought Ohio State basketball seat licenses were expensive:

Courtside seats at renovated Pauley to cost more than $500,000

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- UCLA unveiled a point system to determine the pecking order by which fans get to choose their seats in a renovated Pauley Pavilion.
The aging basketball arena is set to undergo a makeover in time for the 2012-13 season.
The university announced a plan Tuesday that ranks ticket holders, giving credit to alumni, longtime season ticket holders and donors who help pay for the $185 million renovation.
Athletic director Dan Guerrero called it an effort to "recognize the longtime supporters of UCLA athletics." The price increases won't be clear until next week when ticket holders receive statements informing them of their ranking.
He said UCLA has received $53 million in donations and pledges for the project.
Courtside seats will require a $500,000 donation to the capital campaign, payable over five years, plus an annual donation of $17,000 per seat to the Wooden Athletic Fund.
A one-time donation of $30,000 or more assures up to four seats mostly between the baskets in the lower half of the arena. Those tickets require annual Wooden Fund donations of $2,000 to $4,000 per seat, plus the face value of the tickets.
In past seasons, the university required the face value plus a Wooden Fund donation.
Under the ranking system, the top 125 point holders choose from the best seats, followed by fans in the 126-525 range and so on.
A seating diagram shows the student section will remain at about 2,000 seats but will be switched to the south side of the court and wrap around the end line. The faculty and staff section will increase to about 850 seats.

Remember that Sports Illustrated story regarding UCLA, by our friend George Dohrmann?

Did they ever settle that lawsuit between that former UCLA player and SI/Dohrmann?

I ask because Dohrmann is making the media rounds trying to validate his "hit piece" on UCLA after Ben Howland's departure. So if there was a pending lawsuit, I don't know if he'd (Dohrmann) be talking to the media (which is why I was wondering about litigation).

**BTW, if you look at Dohrmann's work with SI after his UCLA thing, he's barely wrote for SI. I think after his piece on Ohio State and then UCLA, people are learning his work is very suspect.

SI did let Dohrman do the postmortem on Howland at UCLA today:

I think they're (SI or Dohrmann) are just trying to validate his accusations against Howland or the UCLA program.

That's why I was wondering if Reeves Nelson's lawsuit went any further, because I know Dohrmann was named (along with SI).

*At least he didn't accuse UCLA of rigging a raffle in the 80's.

This would be interesting. He has no coaching experience but I bet he could recruit the hell out of some big men:)

UCLA has said it is looking for a basketball coach to enhance its winning culture. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar said he’s the man.

Abdul-Jabbar said that he wants to be considered for the Bruins job, replacing recently fired Ben Howland.

The winning part of his r?sum? is beyond question.

As a center for the Bruins from 1966 to ’69, Abdul-Jabbar was the star on teams that won three NCAA titles. He was on teams that won six NBA titles.

“Like all Bruin supporters,” Abdul-Jabbar said, “the recent trend at our school hasn’t made me happy. The players don’t seem to be learning how to play, and haven’t been graduating. We can do better.”

Abdul-Jabbar, 65, said that he has reached out to athletic director Dan Guerrero, “and hopefully, I can get a chance to make my case.”

He has had no Division I coaching experience, but has coached in various capacities from high school through the NBA.

He has some affiliation with the city of Minnesota. I can't remember what team he coached up there but his name has been mentioned for that job.

He played for the Timberwolves. The ISU head coaching job is his first in the field of coaching. Zero prior experience. Which makes it all the more impressive what he's accomplished the past two seasons.

I would be shocked if this happened.

A report from ESPN?s Andy Katz and Peter Yoon came in during the Marquette-Miami game, saying that Butler coach Brad Stevens is at the top of UCLA?s list to replace the recently fired Ben Howland. While the article didn't initially indicate if there is mutual interest between the two, it would certainly be a fascinating marriage. The Bruins look like they?ll lose Shabazz Muhammad, Larry Drew II and Kyle Anderson to the upcoming NBA draft, so a complete overhaul looks to be in order. Stevens, in his only head coaching job, has done a fantastic job, but inherited a 29-7 team that reached the Sweet 16 before former coach Todd Lickliter took the head coaching job at Iowa. It?ll be interesting, if this deal actually happens, to see Stevens? presence on the recruiting trail in a new environment.
