Bama never wanted UAB (or any other small in-state school for that matter) around, and damn sure never wanted them to have a chance in life.
there's 7 possible in-state schools not named Auburn they could play.
they've only played 1 of those schools in their entire history (played Samford 21 times). And they haven't played them since 1944.
just did the research (not counting pre-historic games against teams no longer in Div 1):
in the History of Bama football, they've played 208 games against non-Power 5 schools.
21 of those 208 were against teams from the state of Alabama (none since end of WWII).
that's right around 10%.
compare that to LSU as an example:
LSU has 10 possible in-state opponent and have played all but 3 at least once.
212 games against non-power 5 schools (removed games against Tulane when they were in the same conference).
93 of those 212 were against teams from the State of Louisiana.
good for 44%.
Both teams played roughly the same number of games OOC against non-Power 5. Both are known to bay really good money to these small schools for these cupcake games.
Alabama appears to have gone out of their way to not spend that money in state.
LSU has done at least a decent job of keeping the money close to home.
