Just wondering, but do you think OSU was looking ahead to Michigan State from this game?

I always get the feeling that we're not seeing everything being thrown onto the field every game. Maybe I'm a homer in thinking there's so much more there, but given the level of competition, I wonder if some of the playbook is being kept back.

I have always felt that any team coming into the "Shoe" for the 1st time will
play like - They have something to prove - so they just play lights out hoping
for a shocker or a huge upset in the world of college football.

And for 4 games we had to witness this over and over, and yet coming out with a win. I have seen this scenario play out time and time again. So maybe it's time for the team to get away from the home town enviornment and play in a hostile one for a change and to find out who (OhioState) they really are.

You certainly can see the frustrations on the faces of the coaches and so many players. I lost count of how many times those guys on defense were
trying to strip the ball instead of putting them on thier butts. Maybe they
are over-playing at times and even playing over thier heads, causing so
many mental mistakes.

Now they will have a good weekend to prepare for "Sparty" and they better be prepared real good cause you know Mich-State will be in a very pissed of manner themselves. It should be one hell of a ballgame to watch.

I had a coaching moment with my lacrosse kids a couple of weeks ago. In summary it went something like, 'this is an agressive game, play aggressive ball... But do it within yourselves. Play with the fundamentals I've been preaching to you for years. Focus on what you've been trained to do and you'll win. Focus on laying a kid out and you're not focusing on what I've spent years teaching you.'

Seems like it applies here too.

Look forward to the Bucks turning things around on the field like my 5th and 6th graders.

:oh:

This was a common rationalization under Tressel but Meyer pretty much dismisses any of that if you watch his post game pressers.

If Meyer can win 100-0 he is going to. This team, as he calls out, just isn't very aggressive as a whole.

IMHO that is left over from the last regime and will be the last area to get fixed and then only through recruiting and possibly further staff changes. I don't think it's a coincidence that the "softest" phase of this team is defense and that happens to be coached by the lone hold over from the last staff.

I had some family in this weekend so I have not been on this thread much, but I spent this morning reading through this thread and I am not near a negative on the performance yesterday as most. My recollection without benefit of watching a replay.

On Defense-

Tackling- Improved, not great, maybe not even good but better then the 3 previous weeks

Angles- Much Improved (Of course CJ did not play)

Pass Rush- Much improved for the second week in a row.

Secondary Breakdowns- None that UAB was able to take advantage of. This could be because the pass rush improved.

Areas that are big concerns (besides tackling)- The DB and LB's seem very slow to recognize the bubble and center screen pass. I think we are going to have to accept that LB play this year will be a significant drop off from the play that we are used to. Hopefully Shazier and Grant can make progress from now to the end of the year.

On Offense- How can I explain the Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde that is our offense. The only thing that make sense to me is that when they are thinking when they run the 15 scripted plays at the beginning of the game and when they run plays coming out of our half time adjustments AND are just playing when they
score 3 TD in the space of 5 minutes. I think (Believe? Hope?) that as the offense gains more experience, you will see more of the later and less of the former.

To be clear, I am a glass "Half Full" guy when it comes to this team. Maybe the difference is that from the start, I saw a 8 to 9 win team based on the offense having to learn Urban's system and the defense having to adjust to some new coaches and Fickell having to learn how to coach without Heacock.

COLUMBUS -- Urban Meyer did not return to the sidelines to write off two-touchdown victories.
The coach kept up appearances after Ohio State's 29-15 victory over winless Alabama-Birmingham. He clapped and smiled after singing the final notes of the alma mater in the south end zone, belted the fight song with his team in the locker room, and told players to enjoy the rest of their Saturday.
"I'm loving coaching this team," Meyer said

"You're always happy to win a Division I football game," said left tackle Jack Mewhort, a St. John's Jesuit graduate. "We're very pleased about that. But on the other hand, we know we have a lot of improving to do. There's no doubt about that."

Not much else to say.

Not a great performance by any stretch, but I am not as pessimistic about the game against Sparty.

I would agree that as we stand right now, they seem to be a better match up for us than our last couple of opponents. That said, there is still plenty to be leery of.

Watching MSU game and...wow.

The Big 10 is truly awful.

OSU, UM, UW, MSU all are supposed to be the top, tough teams in the conference and all look Charmin soft as hell.

Looking at the schedule and how the teams are playing, I'm scared to death of Purdue and Nebraska. Every other team is at least at OSU's level as far as inconsistency and poor play.

To be fair, almost every good B1G team is rebuilding. Sparty lost their senior QB, Wisc lost much of their linemen, and Michigan has been rebuilding the last 4-5 years.
