good job on sounding like a douche to him

Whatever you say Bucknut..I'm sorry if I offended anyone. Wasn't trying to. I'm just of the opinion that teams coming to "The Shoe" will be hurting when they leave. That mean everyone from Miami OH to scUM. As far as a great time...no place better on earth.

Let's face it we have some things to take care of this year bowl or not.

We need to score points on some folks.

We need to shut some teams out.

We need to start a @home winning streak.

Call me any name you want..I used to pretty much root for most BIG teams when they weren't playing us...as you know this off-season has changed that. I'm all for UAB giving us their best..but in reality I'm thinking that it won't nearly be good enough. Hell I'd hand him a couple brats and a six pack in the parking lot..but once the game starts..it's a no mercy type of thing. After the game he could use my cell to call a taxi if he needed, or I'd offer a ride...but this has been the longest season/off-season in a long time..it's time for us to reclaim the title of best team in the entire damn land.

You guys sound like my kind of people. I am really looking forward to the shoe. Just from seeing games on TV, I can tell it's insane. Columbus seems like it's a cool place as well. I'm making this game and Tulane my two road trips for the fall. Tulane because it's New Orleans and most likely a win, Ohio State because of the atmosphere. As far as the score is concerned, who knows what will happen. I don't expect a win, but I'd at least like for us to keep it close. Excited for the season as a whole with a new coach in Garrick McGee.

Welcome to BP. Get to the stadium (area) early. The party starts early on gamedays. Lane Ave. will have plenty of beer, food and music. Bring some walking shoes. A car is pretty useless on gamedays.

Assuming they'll still do it..I recommend going to the Skull Session (2 hours before kickoff) held in St. John's arena...

dunno if Urban plans on doing it, but with Tressel the team walked through in the beginning

Welcome to BP. For those who us who aren't too familiar with UAB's football program, can you provide a little info about the team and your outlook for them this year? Strengths, weaknesses, what brought about the coaching change, etc.

I know one thing--there were a lot of new UAB basketball fans in Columbus at Nationwide Arena a few years back when they knocked off Kentucky in the 8/9 - 1 2nd Round matchup.

Well UAB football started as a club team back in 1989. We've been Division 1 since 1996. We've been to one bowl game which was in 2004. Probably the most notable player to come out of our program is Roddy White. Joe Webb also came from UAB and is the second string QB for the Vikings. Unfortunately since we became Division 1 our head coaches have been atrocious. Watson Brown came first and took us to a bowl game. Unfortunately there was no discipline in the program and for the talent he was able to recruit they underachieved. One of his teams was able to knock off LSU in Nick Saban's first year. He resigned back in 2006. We went after Jimbo Fisher and he was ready to sign the contract. Unfortunately we are in the UA System whose board of trustees only have Alabama's interests in mind. They vetoed his contract due to "financial reasons" when in reality half his compensation was to be funded privately by boosters and the school would be paying him less than we did Watson Brown. Most people think they were hoping Nick Saban would hire Fisher as his offensive coordinator. Anyway, we got Neil Callaway who was a career assistant and sought after by no one else. His records were 2-10, 4-8, 5-7, 4-8, and 3-9. The hire was never popular with the fanbase and he was never the kind of guy we needed. He's a great assistant, but a terrible head coach. No fire or charisma. He got fired a day after the last game of this past season. We hired Garrick McGee beginning of December and since then there has been a level of excitement like never before. The players really seem to be buying into it and learning the new offense well. We've got a good QB coming into this year, good receivers, and a solid backfield. The biggest question mark. Our defense has been pretty bad in recent years but after spring practice McGee said he thought our D-line would be a strong point. It's really hard to tell what will happen this year. McGee has said the talent level we have exceeded his expectations. I could definitely see us going to a bowl game. If nothing else, I think we'll be much more competitive in each game. As far as the school, UAB has been around since 1969. While we've historically been a commuter school, UAB has really started to become a more residential campus. This should provide some good information as well: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UAB_Blazers_football

Thanks for the info & welcome to BP. As others have said, Lane Avenue is the place to be & the Skull Session is an awesome tradition. Some other points of interest would be Buckeye Grove, The Oval & The Woody Hayes Athletic Center.

No worries man. Very interesting menu from Eddie George's restaurant. May have to check it out. Looking at their burgers:
Our Cheesy Cheesiest Cheeseburger*
Our 100% all beef half pound burger generously stuffed with cheddar cheese, topped with smoked gouda cheese then topped with Swiss cheese 10.99
Our Ginormous BLT Double Grilled Cheese Ranch Burger*
Our 100% all beef half pound burger topped with ranch and stuffed between two grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches 12.99

And I thought we were bad in the south...

Menu's a bit pricey, but food is fantastic! And, every now and then, you'll even see Eddie there.

Wish I could find the SD Card that had the picture of his custom, scarlet Corvette with 27 emblems on the front and back window.

EDIT: Ok, I guess I will say it's been a few years since I've been there. Freakin' Bucknut always naysaying.... :shake:

I'll be honest, the food there isn't that great...

Usually expect that when a celebrity/athlete slaps their name on a restaurant. They know people will flock there anyway because of the name. Still intrigued though.

It can get PACKED on gamedays. If you want something quick, The Flying Pizza on High St. is always a great choice. You can buy a whole pizza, or buy by the slice which makes it convenient. Flying Pizza is top 3 pizza place (in Ohio, since I can't have Giordano's regularly ) for me.
