Maybe. I don't necessarily want Klinsmann gone. I do think there needs to be a separate technical director though, somebody between him and Gulati on the ladder who can also help with selecting squads. Klinsmann has done a great job of bringing in dual nationals and I'm content with him as an in-game manager. What I'm not happy with is the fact that he is slow to bring in young players from MLS. Where is Perry Kitchen, for instance? Why was Kyle Beckerman's ancient corpse the only thing brought in to play as a holding midfielder? I would understand if Klinsmann's position is that young guys have to break down the door with their clubs if they want to get looked at, but he doesn't seem to apply the same standard to players that play abroad.
The good news is, Gold Cup squads usually don't reflect the squad that takes shape during World Cup qualifying. A lot of these guys won't make it to Russia based on age alone. Wondo, Gordon, Beckerman and Evans can get lost. Mix, Brooks, Alvarado and several others need to improve to have a chance. Altidore should be told to only bother trying to come back if he pulls his head out of his ass.
There are plenty of guys in the youth setup and in MLS that I'm eager to see get their shot. There are players that were injured or still with their clubs that I anticipate will be key pieces going forward that could've helped tonight. I think the players are in the system - here just needs to be somebody working with Klinsmann to make sure he's selecting the right ones for his squad.
