Wow, so it's Japan...what a way to lose, on an OG at the 92nd minute. Kind of sad, one teammate was waving everyone over to console her, and it looked like the rest of them didn't want to.

Forget Laura Bassett being a girl, if a guy did that (that late), I think he'd start crying or staring off into the distance. If you read her lips, what else can you say but, "F*ck off".

Let's hope FIFA doesn't drop Goal-Line Technology with the next president (Platini is against it).

U.S. WNT 2-0 Sunday.

Also a few words about FOX's coverage of this event:

It's better than I thought it would be. They've given it the level of attention and fanfare it deserves. The on-air talent has been decent and tolerable for the most part. I was afraid they'd revert to their Fox Soccer Channel way of doing things, but it hasn't been that way at all.

My main gripes are:
  • Commentators need to use the correct terminology for added time and extra time, and avoid conflating the terms. I don't even mind calling extra time "overtime." Just don't muddy the terminology for the added time. Added time is not "extra" or "over" time. It is time that was already part of regulation, that was lost and is being reclaimed. Overall, I don't mind announcers using Americanized terminology. I personally prefer to say "penalty area" instead of "18-yard box" but whatever. People should speak about the game in a way that they're comfortable, as long as it's clear what they're talking about. I'd just hate to hear announcers being overly assertive in either their Americanness or their British mimicry.
  • Fox Sports GO sucks. I expect an online stream to be a bit behind a TV feed and social media, but being five minutes behind is outrageous. Also, when trying to stream through a browser they require third-party cookies to be enabled - not cool.

I've used my browser on my laptop because of the larger screen. No worries about it for today since it's on my TV, but there's no good reason for them to require third party cookies to play the online stream.
If you have a newer version of windows, you can get the app in the windows app store and it's only 30 seconds or so behind.
