No wonder why no one takes soccer seriously in America... Greed.

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/st...world-cup-qualifier-vs-guatemala-pay-per-view

Traffic Sports USA purchased the rights from the Federacion Nacional de Futbol de Guatemala and announced an agreement Friday with Integrated Sports Media to distribute the match in the U.S.

It will have a suggested retail price of $29.95 and will be available on DIRECTV, DISH Network and Avail-TVN and iN Demand -- which is available on systems of Time Warner Cable, Cablevision, Comcast, Charter, Frontier and COX.

30 fucking dollars for a qualifier... Who the fuck do they think they are fooling? Do they HONESTLY believe they'll get a UFC-PPV type turnout? Because if they do, they are severely mistaken. I wouldn't imagine the number of PPV subscribers goes much higher than 100,000 for this match.

firstrowsports will be just fine, and FREE.

That's disappointing and quite frankly a poor business decision. Nobody will pay to watch that. I guess I'll just have to find a bar or the aforementioned firstrowsports to watch the game. Hopefully nobody buys the game and the qualifiers at Jamaica and Antigua, owned by Traffic Sports, will be put on some cable station that I already pay for.

I just find it really ironic that the Champions League Final was on Fox for the whole world to see, at no extra charge. Yet, these morons want to charge a ridiculous price for a game that 80% of the world doesn't give a shit about.

There's an armada of reasons why it won't take off, but one of the big ones is that there's not really that much room for the sponsorships that the networks want (The incentive is always money). You can't 'commercialize' it because each half is continuous with no breaks in action (unless there's a catastrophic event or serious injury) and the only time for commercials is at halftime when nobody's watching.

I believe they also bought the rights to other away qualifiers as well. It's a shame really. Fox got the 2018 & 2022 World Cup rights so the days of soccer on ESPN will soon be a thing of the past, which is a real shame. ESPN has a much bigger reach in the sports world and Fox is just downright terrible in it's coverage and publicity.

Not to mention having to deal with Eric Wynalda....

Fox, in the past 3 or 4 years has done some things ESPN could only dream of. I'm actually glad ESPN won't be airing any games, because the commentators they put on the games are absolute fools who don't know what they're talking about.

This has failure written all over it, and I'll be laughing when it does fail.

Luckily, I'll be in attendance at one of the World Cup Qualifiers, not sure if it's a PPV one or not. (The one at Crew Stadium)

ESPN did snag Martin Tyler for the last World Cup, which was clutch. I like Ian Darke & Macca, but they only do the EPL games. The commentators & analysts for MLS & US games are regrettable though. I really miss Derek Rae though, I thought he was great despite the fact Tommy Smyth was his partner because he is an effing idiot. I didn't like how ESPN stopped playing La Liga games on Sundays though.

I've always hated Fox's coverage of soccer because every cable provider I had until recently never had Fox Soccer Chanel. There coverage of the Champions League downright blows. They put the worst game on Fox Sports & put the best one on FSC. That makes no sense because I'd rather watch the best game in HD. The fact they only play one Champions League game on Fox Sports per matchday blows my mind as well. At least ESPN would give you a replay of another big matchup directly after whatever English team was playing if you wanted to see it as well as playing two games live per matchday.

Martin Tyler was on for the CL Final.

And thankfully TWC added the Fox Soccer Plus in HD, so I don't have that issue anymore. And with European soccer, I've come to accept the fact that I'm most likely to watch beginning to end either on tape delay, or on my DVR. So I'm content. Coverage of the CL this season wasn't bad, but the Europa League was non-existent on TV. That is what bummed me out.

Yes. Time Warner FTW when it comes to soccer. I'm getting Fox Soccer, Fox Soccer Plus and NBC Sports Network all as part of the Digital Sports Tier, which has a nominal monthly charge and is essential for college football anyway.

Other providers that I checked out recently Have FSC only as part of their highest priced packages, and they they charge as much as $15/month for Fox Soccer Plus, which is highway robbery.

TWC finally doing something right for once. I absolutely LOVE the sports tier. As it gets later in the season, there will be wall to wall baseball coverage with the addition of YES Network (Yankees) and NESN (Baltimore?) as well.

I agree. If they would just add the NFL Network then I really couldn't complain much about them anymore...
