U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

I wonder if this reporter has nothing to write about (he's a regular soccer reporter, because I've read him before).

Mexican supporters have been yelling "puto" on goal kicks for at least three decades now. It's nothing new, therefore a story isn't really needed when they do it.

MEXICO CITY — United States goalkeeper Brad Guzan was taunted with an offensive and homophobic slur within the opening minutes of the national team’s World Cup qualifier in Mexico on Sunday night.

Guzan was the latest opposition keeper to be on the receiving end of the Estadio Azteca crowd’s long-standing habit of yelling “puto” — which translates as “gay prostitute” — whenever visiting players take a goal kick.

Two questions for those who follow more closely than I....

1) Will we see Julian Green again on the senior team?
2) Is Josh Sargent as good as they are hyping (similar to Pulisic)?
I guess no for #1....at least for any meaningful time. A big no for #2, just because Pulisic is better than Pele and Messi combined and fuck anybody who says differently.

From what I read, Bruce Arena didn't want any of his big players in the upcoming Gold Cup (Pulisic being one of them). Could potentially open the door for a Green or Zelalem to crack the starting XI or subs.

Thanks for the replies guys, now I can ask more, muahahhaa.....

Has Tim Howard fallen off any? I know a year or so ago the talk was we were moving to Guzan....now we're back with Howard.
Is this the most balanced US squad we've seen? There seem to not be too many questions about who will be starting, a few on the last roster spots but things appear solid.

And why am I excited about having Arenas back now when I couldn't wait to get rid of him before?

IMO, I would say Howard and Guzman are about even, with Howard declining a bit due to age. As others have said, I think it's been time to go in a new direction for 2 years now. And today, reports of Jesse Gonzalez applying to FIFA to switch from El Tri to the USMNT, presumably because Ochoa has Mexico's keeper position locked down for several more years (He's an enjoyable player to watch). LINK for that.

Bruce Arena is a solid coach. No doubt about that, and he should be able to continue to develop some of the other talent in the player pool that haven't been present in recent games. A lot of his recent success can be attributed to the growing interest in soccer in the US. Some players that have parents from two different countries are beginning to choose the US over their other options, in hopes to build a winning USMNT. I just hope he continues to try to add more while developing what he already has. It may have been what caused his first tenure to end.

Where did Zardes go? I thought he played well a while ago.

Should be another option in July for the Gold Cup, I would think.

Howard has fallen off a little and Guzan isn't good enough to fully invest the time in. The younger keepers still need some time to even get to their level.

I'm not sure about the balance. It does kind of feel that way, doesn't it?
