Well, wasn't too concerned with Chandler being unavailable for the next match, but Jones I think could be a bigger loss.

Just have to finish 3rd out of the 6 to auto qualify for Russia '18. They SHOULD still be the 3rd best team in this region, but this certainly makes the margin for error smaller the last 8 games- have to beat up on the others in the group.

And 4th place does put them into a playoff with the Asia Football Confederation 5th place team (Asia + Australia/New Zealand, etc.), so this isn't doom and gloom yet. Doesn't make it any less frustrating, though.

Not sure when exactly the change happened, but CONCACAF having good enough performances at the World Cup, and overall FIFA rankings, earned them an extra spot compared to maybe even just a decade ago.

Pretty sure it used to be 2 teams, plus 1 playoff spot. USA may be pretty thankful for extra one this go-round.
