U.S. Men's National Soccer (Official Thread)

Jones, Wood, Bedoya all out

Wood - wow has he impressed me....killing it up front lately, that's a huge loss.

Who steps in? Nagbe for Jones? Zusi for Bedoya? At least Yedlin will be back in. The Bedoya loss doesn't worry me, don't think there is much of a drop to Zusi.

Going to be tough to make up for what those guys bring. Wood has been key to what we've been doing offensively all tournament with his runs in behind the defense. Jones was the best player on the field for us against Costa Rica and we've seen the US struggle in the past trying to pair midfielders with Bradley. Bedoya has been fantastic this tournament as a 2-way player, he's truly been everywhere and has been key to our defensive strategy, his contributions are bound to be under-rated but he's been great. Only thing I would say on him is he did look exhausted by the end of the game, so getting some rest may be useful.

In terms of subs, I think Jurgen has two routes: proven guys who do what the guys we're missing do, just a little bit worse... or take a chance on unproven guys who can provide a spark to give us a prayer of beating Argentina. If he goes with the first option, I think we'll see Beckerman, Zusi, and Wondo to start. My hope is he pushes the envelope and we see Nagbe in for Jones, and Pulisic in for Wood, I think we need their creativity/spark if we're going to have a shot. Still don't really see a better option for Bedoya than Zusi (admittedly, I know virtually nothing about Perry Kitchen, who's the other M on the roster).

I like Zusi a lot, and always have, but at this point I question how long he can go as a starter at that level...I think he is a more ideal sub. I don't know, it ain't looking good though, we would need all hands on deck to compete with Messi. At this point, without those 3 guys, beating Messi et al. Might get in the ballpark of the 50 WC.

All things considered, win or lose, these guys showed some serious mettle in this tournament. Pretty much everyone had em written off before Costa Rica and then everyone jumped ship after. Very proud how they've battled and John Brooks is becoming one of my favorite U.S. players. Guy is nails in the back.

Argentina with the early goal and it was gorgeous. Messi with a fantastic ball in and Higuain put in a half-volley on a perfect first touch.

Might need to touch up on my Spanish as it seems to only be on Univision Deportes.
