2027 TX WR Benny Easter (Texas Tech Soft Verbal)

Ohio State football suddenly seems to have a real chance at stealing away another major college football program’s prized recruit

Ohio State football had a big recruiting weekend just a couple of days ago. Coming out of it, the Buckeyes look to be in a great position to potential take a five-star talent away from Texas Tech.

Ohio State had a couple of important visitors joining Gabriel Georges this weekend. California five-star DL Marcus Fakatou was on campus, as well as five-star WR Benny Easter Jr. (Texas Tech verbal).

The latest update on Easter’s visit sounds like the Buckeyes made some real progress in flipping the elite wideout away from the Red Raiders.

Lettermen Row’s Alex Gleitman revealed following the visit that there’s a belief from the Buckeyes end of things that they feel like they have a legit shot to complete the flip.

“The feeling from sources at the time of that first visit was that the Buckeyes definitely had a realistic shot, but the vibe was that Texas Tech would eventually pony up enough on the NIL front to keep Easter in the fold,” Gleitman wrote. “Following conversations entering this trip, and getting Easter on campus this weekend, I’m starting to get a vibe from those in the WHAC that they actually think they can pull this one off.”

Easter has been committed to Texas Tech since November as the No. 7 wide receiver in the country, per 247 Sports Composite. The elite wideout from Humble, Texas doesn’t currently have an out-of-the-world NIL deal with Texas Tech that one may expect. It feels as if the Buckeyes are going to be able to be competitive on that front, which will help their chances of landing him.
