Have you fellow deer hunters noticed that things are behind from the warm weather? I almost hit a six point 3 weeks ago that was still in velvet.

But what's also weird is the Rut seems to be early. Bucks are moving like crazy. Lost count of how many I have seen hit, or almost hit myself. even watched 1 following 2 does all over my yard. Horny bugga.

I usually Turkey hunt only once a year. I hop in the car and rush down early to get a good spot then when I find just the right bird...... I throw it in my cart and head to the checkout lane in triumph.

Very nice. This year, wait untill midnight the night before Thanksgiving...then you will get the thrill of the hunt too.

We've took a very large buck last year in muzzle-loader season in velvet. It was huge, but the antlers were undeveloped--they had a big spread, but just velvet and no real tines.

dressed up as Lil' Red Riding Hood and chirping like a cricket.
He happened then upon a brook and stopped to have some water.
He saw a doe, took just one look, then drew a gun and shot her.
He cheered and cheered and jumped for joy while dancing 'round the body,
then sighed and cried out, "Boy, I'm tired...and need to use the potty!"
He hiked his skirt and popped a squat and shat into a bush,
but didn't see the bee and got a stinger in his tush.
He yelped and clutched onto his bum and wailed in agony,
and went again right to his gun. "I'll kill that fuckin' bee!"
ekeen took aim and tried to hit the bee with every shot,
but missed and missed and threw a fit and just sucked his thumb a lot.
He propped his gun against a tree and looked around and said,
"I may have missed that stupid bee, but at least the deer is dead."

Okay, it's no masterpiece, but hey. It was short notice.

The only thing I notice is that I am not seeing as many during the day because of the hotter weather. I haven't seen any in velvet yet but will keep my eyes open since you brought it up.

It has been a few years since I turkey hunted. I still belong to the NWTF.
I remember when there were almost no turkeys in Ohio. Calling an old tom in with some hens is a speciall thrill. We do not have a fall season down here, only spring.

Please tell me that the weather is going to cool down, especially in Ohio. My season down here has been ruined and all I have to look forward to is my annual Ohio deer hunt.

Yea, some are predicting a very cold winter. Looks like the rut will start the second week in November.

For some reason, I'm much less averse to people shooting birds than deer and other large mammals. Not sure of the extent to which they experience complex emotion. I'm inclined to say something like:
