Ohio State commit Tunmise Adeleye on why he didn't choose Texas
The second defensive line commit in Ohio State's impressive 2021 class thus far, Adeleye was recently asked on social media what took Texas out of the race in his recruitment and mentioned player development in his assessment.
“Cause in the past five years they’ve only sent 15 percent of their 4 and 5 star recruits to the NFL Draft,” Adeleye wrote on Instagram.
247Sports national analyst Chris Hummer in April published an in-depth, five-year deep dive on which college football programs do the best job turning elite talent into draft picks. Alabama, Ohio State and Clemson made up the Top 3, followed by Florida, LSU and Oklahoma.
Texas ranked near the bottom-tier in talent development at No. 30 overall with 15.2 percent of players ranked inside the Top247 drafted over the past five seasons.
"If you’ve ever wondered how can a team with the resources and recruiting power of a Texas fall so fast, just look at this graphic," Hummer writes. "The Longhorns rank 31st of 32 qualifying teams on this list, and nobody has a lower hit rate at 15.2 percent of Top247 players drafted. Texas and Virginia are the only programs on this list that couldn’t manage to hit the 20 percent threshold.
"Texas, which signed a pair of top five classes within this 2011-15 stretch, is the only program to sign a top 10 class and finish with a development rate below .50."
Adeleye, the No. 4 strongside defensive end nationally per the 247Sports Composite, sees Ohio State's 2021 class as a difference-maker nationally.
“We talk about seeing if we can build something special,” Adeleye said in regards to staying in contact with a number of the Buckeyes’ other commitments in an interview with Bucknuts. “I’m building relationships with these guys.”
