Tuesday Question on CFN.com

An 8-4 team gets top 10 preseason billing with a schedule that includes three other top 10 preseason teams...I can see why they view us as overrated.

Remember that a team is only overrated if they don't live up to the hype. Coach Tressel has set the expectations high this year and he's challenged the guys to raise the bar. If they don't perform up to expectations, it won't be because national perception was off...it will be because they've placed the weight of a perfect season on themselves. That's the price of playing at Ohio State.

A more sobering fact of this article is how the perception of Buckeye fans has dwindled. Some may take pride in the fact that the media is scared of us or that they walk on egg shells...but I think it's disgusting. Some fans have overreacted to a point that we aren't going to be able to get objective outside opinions of the football program. There have to be writers who would rather omit tOSU in their articles than to get the whining e-mails. Who want's to defend their point to every 13 year old Buckeye fan with internet access?

I think it's time we choose our battles more wisely.

FWIW, I could make a pretty good argument that every team in the top-10 is overrated. There is no one who is absolutely proven to be top-notch this year in college football other than the USC offense. You could even "say" they are overrated because their defense will end up giving three or four touchdowns to someone....I think arguing that USC IS overrated is futile, but as for the others who might variously be ranked top -10, any one of 'em will do.

Tennessee is number 2 in a lot of polls after losing four (?) games last year and suffering 16 arrests since then...Texas lost Benson and Johnson....Michigan is coached by LLLoyd...etc...

Uh, how can he be when he hasn't played a single down on defense and won't, except for some limited time in nickel/dime packages, this season.
Not playing the CB position full-time in college because he's also an elite player on offense doesn't diminish his status as an NFL prospect at the CB position, given his measurables. The USA Today Defensive Player of the Year, with his hips and his speed and decent size (6'0") is about as an elite cover-corner NFL prospect you can find.

Gil Brandt called him the best athlete among the Playboy All-Americans and threw in a little blurb about his NFL prospects.
