Some how I don't think our coaches are going around to recruits and saying "All we care is that you beat Michigan." Just a hunch ;-)

In fact, the APR rankings were released today and Ohio State was in the Top 10.

Imagine that! A football program who is competiting for championships while actually providing systems and a culture for football players to be successful in the class room.

If you want to play elite football and have success in the class room ... there is only one choice ... The Ohio State University.

Come'on in kids ... we got more room.

The class room/real ife Wednesday opportunities are excellent and not mutually exclusive to recognizing true evil nor focusing on one's true opponent.

I'll just send you to Urban's last address to the team as my testimony to the truth of focusing on that team up north and the rest be damned.

Until they quit the sport. That means beating those pricks in recruiting then on the field every day...every day! There is nothing greater than watching the Buckeyes stomp the crap out of TTUN. Nothing. The 90s sucked and being around Ohio kids that rooted for TTUN just to be different created the honest hatred I have for that team.

In other news, how about those recruits?

the rivalry is everything. going 10-1 and losing to those skunk weasels is a bad season. beating scUM on the road to the B1G title and playoffs is paramount. lose to them and you do not get to achieve your goals.

always, always beat *ichigan. everything you want for Ohio State revolves around beating that ass like its never been beaten before.

2. Any coach at Ohio State probably has a whole list of things to accomplish. All of those things are labeled 2 through whatever. Number 1 is beat scUM or he won’t be around to accomplish any of the rest.

4. Bama is a level ahead of OSU in recruiting. We can compare top 100 recruits, or we could compare top 10 and top 50 recruits.

6. Let’s not dismiss Clemson. Those guys are recruiting every bit as well as Ohio State.

Another aspect of this is that dismissing Michigan as below us in the rivalry is the exact same arrogant bullshit Michigan fans tried to pull in the 90s.

They are below us in myriad ways including Ohio State, for the most part, not being on the same level of insufferable douche canoe fan bases. Ohio State got where we are by working hard. Michigan got where they are by being entitled country club douchebags.

Don’t be an asshat by flipping the script on that, please.

To clarify, it’s perfectly acceptable to mock Michigan - we do it constantly. But I think it is important to always focus on the results - in recruiting, in player development, and on the field - because the results speak for themselves.

On the flip side, Michigan is arrogant despite the results. So when Ohio State fans start spouting off about how Ohio State is above Michigan in some intangible way, it makes me deeply uncomfortable, because, again, that is what Michigan did in the 90s and that untethered arrogance is arguably a huge part of why they struggle today because it creates their unearned sense of entitlement and accomplishment.

So, let’s always keep that in mind - and thankfully we now have the Urban Meyer rivalry manifesto to help guide us on the finer points of how this should work.

Just because we recognize the gap between Ohio State and Michigan as programs doesn't mean the team takes the game for granted, or should.

It's not really arrogance, it's the truth ... based on actual results.

The reality is Ohio State is competiting with the nations elite. Bama, Georgia, OU, Clemson ... etc etc.

That's WHY the gap exists in the first place.

Otherwise we could just settle on more regional recruits and be happy to dominate the B1G. But we aspire for more ...

Last year we put 62 on Michigan and only had 1 loss. If that's good enough then we aren't striving for greatness, and teams WILL catch us.
