Have any of these geniuses explained yet how Rashan Gary scored a 9 on the Wonderlic but was a 2-time Academic All-American?
Whoa, hold it there a second! Gary twice made Academic All Big Ten, quite a different thing. To make Academic All Big Ten, you need to be in your second year and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better. Not exactly difficult, especially if you're a General Studies major (like Wonderlic Gary).

Academic All American IS a big deal, however, and it's very hard to make the team, especially because players are (literally) competing with Ivy Leaguers.

Ohio State has had 53 Academic All Americans in football, 31 on the first team, 22 on the second team.

The Harvard of the West has had only 33 Academic All Americans, 17 on the first team, 16 on the second team.

Michigan's last first team Academic All American was Rob Renes in 1999. Since then, the Leaders and the Best have produced just two second teamers, Adam Finley in 2004 and Jason Avant in 2005.

Since 1999, Ohio State has had ten first teamers (including Jordan Fuller in 2018; Sam Hubbard in 2016; and both Jacoby Boren and Jack Willoughby in 2015), and five second teamers. Kinda blows Michigan Man's academic arguments out of the water.

I have no idea how "real" these supposed rumors are, but they sure make for great reading:

Three straight days of 14+ hackathon with my team in San Jose. Just stuffed an Iguana Super Burrito with two orange sauces, a shot of Don Julio and a beer down my throat... and this is the most satisfying desert I could have ever ordered.

For a week on the road, I don't know that I could have asked for a better week.

It's real and it's glorious.

You know your program is in good shape when players are volunteering to redshirt.

I just love the fact that we have kids leaving because they can't see the field. Kids who would be studs up north. They have starters leaving because they can't get out of Dodge fast enough.

The false claim of "our football players are held to higher academic standards, everyone else is cheating" is about all they have left to latch on to

Cant beat um.....claim moral superiority and that they cheat.

They are scraping the bottom of the barrel for excuses. I know football players get in with lower standards than the general student population (just like everywhere else), but have we even had an egregious kid barely squeeze in under the NCAA guidelines in a while? Having trouble thinking of any going back a good number of years.

Just want to (selfishly) reiterate this. AAA is a HUGE deal and a major accomplishment. My sister ran D1 track and field she ranks AAA as her number 1 achievement in her collegiate career. She did a number of things on the track, so her telling me that really opened my eyes to how valued that award is.

Michigan once again stumbles into the Bottom 10

5. Michi-gone (2-1)

How gross was Michigan's 35-14 loss at Wisconsin? It was so bad that the block M managed to hold on to the Coveted Fifth Spot, even during a weekend when Utah laid yet another egg at the L.A. Coliseum, Washington State blew a 32-point lead to then-7th-ranked Bottom 10 team UCLA, and the SEC suffered another slew of embarrassing losses (one of those teams is coming up later in these rankings). But in the end, those other defeats still had a little bit of "Oh no! I can't believe that!" to them. At this point in the Harbaugh era, a clunky offensive performance and a loss in a huge B1G game elicits more of an "Oh yeah. I can totally believe that."
