It's comical. Florida is a program still living off of the ghost of Spurrier and Meyer. They haven't fielded a competent offense since 2009. Their defense, while often good, gets worn down over the course of 4 quarters when their offense can't keep them off the field. Plus, as mentioned, they have a thin/inexperienced secondary, and Speight struggled throughout the day against them...11-25, for 181 and 2 pick-sixes. Ty Isaac had a career day, but Evans (who was supposed to be their breakout offensive player) averaged 3.5 ypc. Call me crazy, but I'm not wowed by them beating a [Mark May] SEC team with a bunch of their best players suspended.

I don't doubt that they're going to have one of the top DLs in the country. They've recruited well there and have talent. Their LBs are solid. Their secondary is a question mark, so we'll see what they do against a passing attack that offers more of a challenge to them than a light and variable wind. More than likely, they'll race out to a 6-0 start (though based on what we saw Thursday, IU is no gimme), and climb into the playoff discussion. Their first real test will be in Rhythmic Slappy Valley on Oct 21. If they win that, the Harbrau slurping will reach critical mass. They have three cakewalks after that (Rutgers, Varmints, and Turtles) that they should win. They then at Wiscy and The Game. This season could be setting up just like last...they race out to a fast start against an easy schedule then get their teeth kicked in in November.

Florida's defense this year is definitely not up to par of past teams. Along with the secondary being shaky, They lost their 2 starting DTs (along with a key member of the DL rotation being suspended for the scUM game) and 2 best LBers from last year so obviously you can expect a step back, especially in week 1. We probably won't get a "true" gauge of their offense either until they play Ped State (Unless you're counting on Michigan State to be strong defensively) They should be able to run on anyone else up until then based on athleticism alone. One thing we learned from the UF game was yea, their passing offense has some work to do. They are going to miss Butt and Darboh probably more than they want to admit this year.

I kind of want them to be 11-0 when they play us, just to set them back down once again. It would be hilarious if they flopped a game or two though.

Nah. An 11-0 start won't move them any closer to running their coach off or shutting down the football program.

I think after the Rich Rod and Flinstone fiascoes they've sort of become "ok" with being a 8-10 win per season with not winning the division/making playoff type team. The way they splooge over Hairball the only way I ever see them turning on him is if he hit rock bottom with some 5 or 6 win season.

If they lose The Game and finish something other than 1st in the B1G east again this year and they are going to start on him.

It won't be universal but the noise will start.

I don't think there is an excuse this year. Every player on the roster is fully welcomed to the "Harbaugh Way" or whatever the hell

There really should not have been one last year with all they had back, but there was still plenty of the same "just wait till next year!" banter from scUM fans.

Maybe some small noise if they can't beat Ohio State and win the division this year. But I'd guess the "we had X amount of new starters" excuse will be rolling strong

I think last year's squad represented their best chance to beat the Buckeyes and they still spit the bit. I think Harbaugh his a better coach, and hires better coaches, than did Dick and Flintstone, but the talent gap between OSU and scUM isn't getting smaller. I don't think of Harbaugh as some sort of offensive genius by any stretch, he's basically putting together a trumped up Wisconsin. That CAN be successful, for sure. But... still, if they don't win The Game this November, and I don't believe they will, they won't be winning in the Shoe in 18 either. If the recruiting keeps up at this clip, 19 and 20 aren't looking all that good for them either. I think he moves on after 18 - by choice or by force - and certainly by 20 if things hold the course.

Oh definitely. They had it on a silver platter last year, it was 17-7 late in the 3rd quarter and the Buckeye offense was having a hard time getting much of anything going against a outrageously experienced defense.

For a supposed "QB Whisperer" his QB play at scUM against the better teams sure has been underwhelming. If these recruits are so good.....well they can't beat out Wilton Speight. A more talented version of Wisconsin so far is a pretty good comparison.

I don't think Harbaugh is "dumb" from a standpoint of doing what's best for his own career, him seeing the writing on the wall that it's a huge uphill battle against the machine Urban has going right now and splitting back to the NFL seems like the more likely scenario than him being forced out. Big problem for them is when Harbaugh leaves it leaves them pretty open to drop right back into Flinstone level mediocrity.

Yeah, the QB whisperer [Mark May] mystifies me. Coaching Andrew Luck was no particular miracle.
He had a unicorn QB in Kaepernick. Outrageous athlete who had an above average arm and didn't turn the ball over. However, he had OBVIOUS flaws in his game...he couldn't read a defense for shit. So what did the Harbrau do? He tried to turn him into a pocket quarterback and have him read defenses. This was galactically stupid and directly resulted (along with his asbergers) in him getting run out of SF.

Like I've said over and over, the myth of Jim Harbaugh was built on him landing a generational talent at qb at a traditional doormat program. He certainly deserves credit for getting Luck to play on the farm. However, you look at his track record outside of Luck, he's largely had "game manager" QBs...Alex Smith, Rudock, Speight. It's not like he's churning out superstar quarterbacks like mgoblog would have you believe. And while Kaepernick was a force when they had him operating out of a hybrid pistol offense, he became very ordinary when they went away from it. He "developed" Kaepernick into at best a middle tiered QB. Until he lands another super blue chip QB up there, we've seen already what they're gonna be under him.

He's a good coach. He's not a GREAT coach.

My oldest is graduating HS in 2020. We're heading down Rutgers weekend for a lacrosse prospect camp at the WHAC. I would love nothing more for him to see Hairball go 0-fer through 2024 from a front row seat in the 43210. So, let's hope that tsun powers that be keep drinking the Kool Aid.
