There are a few programs, that somehow, someway con their way into the preseason top-25 every year despite fielding a dog[Mark May] team every year for almost a decade...Texas, Florida, Tennessee. Every year they get their asses whooped and tumble out of the rankings. It's astounding educated people fall for it every year. I guarantee you Indiana would have whooped that horse [Mark May] offense by two touchdowns, minimum. But somehow, scUM gets a "quality win" on their resume, and we "escape" Indiana.
Look at it this way, TV has gotta sell product. Michigan plays Cincinnati - try getting eyeballs to watch that - so you suggest this may be the "surprise team of 2017." Ohio State plays Oklahoma - no problem getting eyebealls on that, especially if you suggest that Ohio State may have a problem dealing with a Heisman worthy QB based on the yards they gave up to Indiana - a team that has a losing record to Northwestern. Marketing. Has little to do with reality.

THREAT LEVEL ISN'T PARTICULARLY IMPRESSED BY MICHIGAN'S VICTORY OVER FLORIDA

THREAT LEVEL

The average salty Michigan fan will clamor for more respect for beating a ranked Florida team, and I will deny it for managing to be losing at halftime to the 116th offense from last season which also happened to be missing their best offensive players from 2016. To be somebody you've gotta beat somebody, and it's going to be almost two months before Michigan will really be able to establish its national bonafides in front of a large audience. That won't prevent the well-oiled UM hype machine from positioning one of their (probably defensive) players as the leading contender for the September Heisman.

Suffice to say, I'm still not particularly impressed. Michigan's defense is as impressive as it's always been under Harbaugh, which is no small feat for a team that only returns one defensive starter from last season, and I'll give them credit for that. But the offense was anemic for much of the game and they were playing a Florida team missing some of their best players. Michigan needs a few more dominant performances in a row to get me shaking in my boots. Threat level: guarded.

Might as well prep to hear how great scUM looks until at least mid October.

That clown show Florida team without their top WR and RB (from an offense that wasnt really good to begin with) is the "best" team theyll face until they get Indiana and Penn State their 6th and 7th games of the season.

This week they get another powerhouse offense. The juggalos managed 26 points against Austin Peay in week 1

These "experts" pretending like Florida isn't garbage cracks me up

Yea Michigan's defense "looked good" but factor in who they were playing.

Florida finished 116th in Offensive YPG last year. 116th!

Factor in that they had their leading rusher (889 yards) and receiver (721 yards) suspended and trotted out a guy who had never attempted a pass in college for a good amount of the game and you get quite possibly the worst offense in the country.....it's not a stretch to say that either.

scUM looked awful in terms of passing offense against a shaky Florida secondary replacing their starting CBs and their best Saftey (who was injured during camp)

It's comical. Florida is a program still living off of the ghost of Spurrier and Meyer. They haven't fielded a competent offense since 2009. Their defense, while often good, gets worn down over the course of 4 quarters when their offense can't keep them off the field. Plus, as mentioned, they have a thin/inexperienced secondary, and Speight struggled throughout the day against them...11-25, for 181 and 2 pick-sixes. Ty Isaac had a career day, but Evans (who was supposed to be their breakout offensive player) averaged 3.5 ypc. Call me crazy, but I'm not wowed by them beating a shit SEC team with a bunch of their best players suspended.

I don't doubt that they're going to have one of the top DLs in the country. They've recruited well there and have talent. Their LBs are solid. Their secondary is a question mark, so we'll see what they do against a passing attack that offers more of a challenge to them than a light and variable wind. More than likely, they'll race out to a 6-0 start (though based on what we saw Thursday, IU is no gimme), and climb into the playoff discussion. Their first real test will be in Rhythmic Slappy Valley on Oct 21. If they win that, the Harbrau slurping will reach critical mass. They have three cakewalks after that (Rutgers, Varmints, and Turtles) that they should win. They then at Wiscy and The Game. This season could be setting up just like last...they race out to a fast start against an easy schedule then get their teeth kicked in in November.
