 Hilarious justifications.

"Hooker was at OSU as a hoops player" is my favorite

Hooker was a 3* #360 ranked national player by 247

However that Ohio State class included 10 top 100 players. scUMs current class has 1 top 100 player (who may flip to UGA) and out of the 18 commits Hooker would have been ranked 9th.

It's true that some 3* unknowns turn into diamonds in the rough.....but currently scUM is clearly reaching for players because they are just unable to land higher caliber ones. They pretty much have to bank on these low 3*s turning into diamonds at this point.

link please to the first one. One of the guys on Scout Michigan's $ board pounded the table incessantly about Hooker as he was from the same area/school. Talked about how they were missing the boat and letting OSU waltz in and steal an incredible athlete. This wasn't once either, he did it about 15-20x, and boy was he right.

Bama is about to sign a 3 star DE that conmitted to Syracuse to play lacrosse. Hooker at OSU was a hoops player.

Some of these freak athletes like Bell play football later on in HS and then get recruiting publicity late.

He is a gem.

ATHLETES though! (sounds like Rich Rod)

Harbaugh loves himself athletes! Just been recruiting them by the boatloads since he’s arrived and i love that. That TE we got the other day is also super athletic. He’s like 6’3”, 228lbs and runs a 4.5 forty with a 40-inch vertical. Having players that can play many different positions is also a bonus.

I don't think they realize the difference between Ohio State/Bama and themselves.

Ohio State/Bama can take a few shots at some potential darkhorse 3* guys and if it doesnt work out it ends up ok because they are loaded at the top end. They are relying on those type of guys turning into productive players at this point, which is not how top programs operate.

3* heaven.

When 90% of your class is "under-evaluated", "a diamond in the rough", "a sleeper" or my personal favorite, "a Harbaugh recruit"...you have issues.

The comparisons to tOSU taking sleepers, or bammer taking a lacrosse player from Syracuse are misguided. tOSU and bammer take flier recruits because the rest of their classes are loaded up with four and five star top-100 players. They can afford to take the risk. scUM's class is predominantly guys that would be "fliers" to Ohio State.

College football is a recruiting game. It's talent acquisition. There's a reason bammer and tOSU are in the National Title discussion every single year; because they recruit the best players. scUM isn't recruiting nearly the caliber of players we are.

Another area they are lacking, IMO, is assistant coaching. Great programs hire great coaches and coordinators. Those coordinators often go on to HC jobs of their own, and are replaced with more studs. Quick, name the last scUM assistant coach to get a HC gig? Ron English almost a decade ago? Who on their staff right now looks like a future HC? No one. The only assistant coach of theirs that I think is anything close to "big time" is Don Brown, and even he has shown some serious flaws in big games. Their offensive coordinator(s) are a joke. His dopey (alleged) son is the RB coach. He fills out a number of other positions with HS coaches who have kids he wants to lure. Harbrau is not turning out to be the sure-fire grand slam they, and many others thought he would be.

DJ Durkin, but aside from that, not too much.

Whoops, forgot that one. Good call. But yeah, that's one in a decade? With nobody on their staff that looks like a candidate.

Just on tOSU's staff, you have two former HCs as coordinators. Both could well get another HC position in the next year or two. They bring in Alex Grinch, I think that's another future HC on top of...

  • Luke Fickell
  • Tom Herman
  • Chris Ash
  • Everett Withers
...in the last 4 years alone.

I don’t think Withers counts.

It’s probably enough for them to win 3rd place in their division if they luck into a senior class of 20 again- 4th place the year before and after the monster class or if a few of them don’t pan out.

The issue is it's not like scUM zeroed in on these guys as their Plan A/B/C recruits. They are settling for them after being turned down by better players. Some of the "sleepers" from OSU/Bama are/were similar, but not nearly at the quantity showing up in scUM's class.

scUM just is not the prime destination for top flight recruits that their fans seem to think. They swore Harbaugh was going to be able to hand pick whoever he wanted because of "NFL PEDIGREE!!!" or whatever but that just has not been the case.

In a way it’s the worst of both worlds between Rodriguez and Hoke in an exceedingly hilarious way.

Rodriguez recruited no names for the most part, but he had a system (on offense, at least) that he was relatively successful at plugging those players into.

Hoke recruited at an elite level (at least at the start) but had the plainest of plain systems on the field.

Harbaugh recruits like Rodriguez and has boring schemes.

I think harbaugh just has a personality that is off putting to a lot of kids. Honestly, Don Brown has really been a life preserver for them. If that defense performed like the offense, harbaugh would probably be looking for a chance to bolt to the NFL.
