TSUN commit Austin Hatch (survivor of 2 plane crashes)

Supposedly, malfunction of the plane and not piloting skills.

Prayers for Hatch and his family as he comes out of his coma.

Which one?

I'd have a hard time getting in a plane again let alone one with the same pilot that crashed killing my siblings and mother.

The first crash was pilot error. That's enough for me to say, sorry dad, I'm driving up to the lake house.

Really glad to hear he's getting better, but with his entire family gone, that's going to really suck.

The first crash was ruled pilot error since he failed to carry enough fuel to make his alternate (South Bend) or stay aloft for > 45 minutes his planned route. He also admitted after failing to land at Ft Wayne the first time that he'd been "messing around" with the autopilot. (*)

There probably won't be a ruling on the second crash for 12-18 months. The NTSB doesn't work that fast. They only just finished the peliminary report:

Reads to me that he was landing into a headwind under instrument guidance, miscalculated his approach, and overshot the runaway. He circled around to land again and appears to have stalled.

Looks like a carbon copy of the first accident, which was also in a Beech A36 Bonanza.

Austin Hatch, of Fort Wayne, made a verbal commitment to play basketball at the University of Michigan before the June crash near the Charlevoix airport. He told the Detroit Free Press in an interview published Tuesday that he'll be on the court with the Wolverines in 2013.

"The most difficult thing is just missing my biological family, because I'm the only one left," he said. "I wish there was an instructional manual in how to deal with this kind of loss."

cont.....

Forgot about this kid.......More impressed he survived TWO plane crashes in his life.
