Troy Smith's Greatest Performance

Troy Smith's Greatest Performance

There are 5 really great and important games in the history of OSU football to vote for, and the top three, by a wide margain, are the 3 Michigan games. That just shows how important the Michigan game is to the Buckeye Nation. We beat a #2 on the road, at night on national tv. And we beat the great Notre Dame in Tempe in one of the most hyped games of the bowl season, only surpassed by the TX v. USC game. A lot of teams would be jealous to have those kinds of games on their resume. But alas, Michigan is where its at. And Troy came to play, and he is the best QB in the history of this school.

Good poll.

I debated between the breakout, outstanding run/pass performance of 2004 and the comeback on the road last year. I went with the 2005 comeback on the road.

All of the games listed could be voted for, no doubt.

I will be a little bit different and say that Troy's greatest performance has been the maturation on and off the field that he has undergone since 2004. His transformation at the QB position, from last year to this year not to mention from 2004 to this year, has been one that I have honestly not witnessed before. The leadership skills were present back in 2004, but his maturation seemed to take those skills to a new level this year.

Granted, Troy's growth at the QB position and his maturation are partly a result of the coaching he has received and the blessing he has had in having JT as a coach. But Troy had to be a willing "student" to allow the teachings of JT and the staff to take hold.

So I vote for other. I vote that Troy's greatest performance has been the tremendous growth he has undergone from 2004-2006, not only as a QB (which is one of the most amazing I have ever seen) but as a person.

I agree and voted "other" too:

Troy Smith's greatest performance just might have been in the classroom over the past 4 years.

Troy Smith graduated in Spring of 2006 with a B A in Communications.

I think Troy's best performance was the 2005 Michigan game. All of the stats, records, and past performance goes out the door for this game. Going up to the Big House is one of the most difficult places to play. By going up there and coming from behind and putting the game on his shoulders, this would be his best performance. I believe this was his comming out party. Basically it told EVERYONE (fans, teammates, and coaching staff) that this is now HIS team and he will do anything to win.

To me it comes down to the quality of the opposition. Until November 18th, many fans of TSUN believed that their 2006 defense is one of their best ever. Whether or not it deserves that label is a debate that no Buckeye fan could care about. But it is certainly the best defense that Troy has faced; and he pantsed them.

I have to go with the 2005 scUM game. He was tremendous all game long, but strapped the entire team on his back to comeback 2 scores down with over of half of the fourth quarter gone. The winning drive and his toss to Gonzo to set up Pitts winning score may have been one of the best drives I've ever seen.

2004 scUM..."the game of his life", underdogs, at home, surprise running game (b. joe) helps take additional pressure off t. smith

2005 scUM..."drive of his life", favored, at the big house, surpise lack of consistincey from offense and special team (t. ginn), this game is more about the final drive than about smith's overall performance

2006 scUM..."and unto you a legend is born", pressure, first ever 1 vs. 2 matchup, pressure, winner take all - big ten, nat title, pressure, 3 game win streak, pressure, scUM defense is so good (allegedly), pressure

good points, ScarletArrow.
I would say that the 2005 scUM game was about the last TWO drives, not just the last drive.

Let's suspend this discussion until after Troy Smith hangs 300 passing/100 rushing and 4 TDs on USC....

Go Buckeyes!
