Almost 10 years for me. Moved down the day after The Game in 2006.

After 2 hours in 90 degree humid as fuck weather, shutters are finally up. Now I know that my first big home improvement project will definitely be getting impact windows.

that part of Florida hasn't had a flyby in a while for a big one.


good new is that you're on the "good" side of it. bad news is the good side still sucks.
the wind direction for at least the first half of this will push water inland. any chance of flooding in your area?

Yes, my first real hurricane experience. I was down here visiting my son in late August in 2005 before I actually moved when Katrina went through Miami as a CAT1, so I saw what a severe tropical storm could do (not nearly what you got with that bitch). It is just weird sitting here waiting for the thing to hit now.
My house is on one the higher points in the area, no flood plain. Also, this house saw Andrew, Wilma, and everything in between with not more than shingle loss in Wilma (according to the records) before my ownership, so I think I will be OK.

I have to say that this view makes me feel like a prisoner in my home though:

Stay safe folks...I think more of the forecast models have it going out to the Atlantic and doing a u-turn and coming back across - hopefully not as a hurricane..

if the track is even reasonably accurate, you'll be fine. weather will be shitty, but you shouldn't see any of the catastrophic shit these things can bring. How bad you get it will all depend on how close that eye wall passes and how far from it does the real shit extend to the west.
you can probably expect trees and power lines to be knocked down for sure.

the wait is the worst part. wait for it to start.
then gradually get worse and worse. then wait for it to end so you can go out and survey the aftermath.

by the way, is that a Gretsch on the left hand side of that pic?

weather should be a lot better by game time.

i'm more concerned with LSU actually getting there.
