It's incredible how it just totally reshapes entire communities.
after Ida, I did survey work on Grand Isle.
there is a little neighborhood on the mainland side of the bridge.

at one point I had to ask a local where exactly I was.
because there were no streets and no structures.

when I say no streets, I literally mean all of the asphalt was no longer there.
there wasn't even any piling left where homes/camps once stood.
nothing. just sand.

@NFBuck - seems you may be unequivocally qualified to render an opinion on one of the hottest conspiracy theories today...
in your opinion. is there any possibility these 'the military or govt is behind these hurricanes' has an inkling of maybe?
No. There's no conspiracy here. A couple of things - the temperatures of the water in the Atlantic Basin and the Gulf of Mexico are slowly rising. That's turbocharging some of these storms. A difference of a degree or two is a big, big deal. Besides that, the media coverage of these storms is increasing in size, scope, and sensationalism. We've always had horrible hurricanes, but 25-30 years ago you didn't have social media and the mainstream media devoting the same amount of time and coverage. I think it all kind of started with Katrina and snowballed from there.

I can say unequivocally, with no hesitation whatsoever, that anyone saying that with a single ounce of seriousness is a fucking moron.

@Mike80 I thought you might be able to help me on something that I'm not quite following concerning Milton. Now that I live in Oklahoma, I've learned a metric shit ton about tornado dynamics. It makes no sense to me how tornados could spawn from a hurricane. Is the reporting correct that there are actual tornados or is something more akin to dust devils (just a much larger size) that's spawning off Milton. Thanks

Nope they are real tornados...

What you get, especially in feeder bands, which is what was happening today, are storms going a essentially due north or even northwest but, also moving somewhat further east....add in the shearing winds (winds changing directions with height), and you get rotation within the storms.

Within a Hurricane itself, this process happens more and more frequently, there are mesocyclones and all sorts of nasty twists as the Hurricane itself is raging.
