Trey Burke (NBA Journeyman)

Fine player, but DeShaun Thomas deserved this award.

Not sure that argument would find much traction outside of Columbus. I think most would say Burke, followed by either Zeller or Oladipo, then DeShaun. He had a wonderful year, but the B1G POY he was not.

I think Trey was hands down the best player in the conference. When playing at his best, he can control a game much like Chris Paul.

Thing was he off a number of times and when he was off, he was jacking up 27' shots and playing average defense.

When oladipo isn't hitting everything he is still giving tremendous effort on the boards, on ball defense and help defense.

Burke was clearly the mvp, especially once osu learned hoe to score with someone other than Thomas, but Burke was pretty streaky.

I think it was fitting to get the award right after the ending of the IU game and their big ten title pursuit. I think most would agree he is the most talented of the league players, but has some consistency issues to work out before he can excel at the next level.

I am just glad the noise for zeller died down. Soft, unsportsmanlike and disappears for huge stretches. He wasn't close to being the best player on his team as they made their stretch run.

Agree on the majority of the points here. Despite the streakiness, his regular season line of 19 points, 7 assists (3:1 assist:turnover), and 3 boards a game is pretty incredible, especially at .485/.396/.784.

I'm with you on Zeller, don't get all the hype. I'm not sure there's anything demonstrably different from Tyler's game, and have no idea why he's projected as a top 3 pick (weak class granted). It was funny how mid-season the media jumped from Zeller to Oladipo, to such a degree that after the Michigan game where Zeller dominated, they were fawning over Oladipo's fairly average game.

Lot of talent in the B1G this year. I think both the media and coaches got it right though with naming Burke POY.

Nobody saw Burke becoming Big Ten POY as a sophomore, but he earned it. Matta even admitted he did not think Burke would be this good. Clearly Matta wasn't the only one as Burke had originally committed to PSU and eventually decided between UC and UM, hardly an imposing list of finalists.

Anyone hear an explanation on Burke's fall in last night's game? Just wondering, because he was writing around on the ground holding his head when the replay clearly showed his head came nowhere near striking the court. And he returned to the game within 5-10 minutes of real time.

Are you implying that he was faking it? That looked like a nasty fall to me. Even if his head didn't hit the ground, the whiplash looked bad enough. I'm sure going out for 5-10 minutes was just a precaution and he was getting checked out to make sure he didn't have any major problems.

He landed on his tail-bone. He was in a ton of pain and just holding his head as a reaction, not because hsi head hurt.

It was a hard, awkward fall where his neck got whiplash at a minimum.

The announcers refusal to pay attention to the replay aside, it was clearly deserving of a painful reaction and a return shortly later.

Take it easy. I've seen a lot of bad falls/injuries in sporting competitions, and I've never seen a guy clutching his head (at least not in the manner Burke did) when his head wasn't even touched on the play.

BTW--whiplash is an injury to the neck, not to the head.

Ok, we will take it easy. Now that we have established that vital starting point, what is it that you're trying to point out?

And no, your definition of whiplash doesn't cover the entirety of the injury genre nor succeed in eliminating the head as a conspirator.

Even if the base of the neck is tweaked and we ignore the countless personal experiences with neck soreness or spasms radiating throughout the shoulder to skull region, his head whipped backwards and to the side. Holding it forward could easily lighten the strain on a strained or sprained muscle.
