YouTube - Penn State fans abuse tOSU fans

Douches galore at State Penn.

That narrator (obviously inebriated) was possibly the most obnoxious thing I've ever heard.

I would be as embarrassed for my team if I was a Penn State fan as I would be had I been an Ohio State fan during the fist of fury incident.

However, if Dabo socked a guy during a game I may revoke the afore mentioned embarrassment. If the guy was doing more than catching an interception I'd be down . Seriously a joke, I don't think anyone holds that over OSU - at least not in a condemming way, nor do I have any bad blood about it.

Hell, having a coach that acts on the part of what certainly a majority of OSU fans were feeling is pretty sick. In fact, having a coach fans can live vicariously through is nice. Thats got to be one of the reasons Danny Ford is so beloved, couldn't keep the camera on him more than a second for all the obscenities - aside from the fact that he won a NC.

My point is simple. It is better to be good now than to suck now and be good back then.
I understand your point - I was just ribbing you a bit.

"Suck now ... good back then." You mean Michigan and Notre Dame, right?

Here is an interesting stat sheet:

Winning percentage the last 50 years.

TEAM WIN % Wins Losses Ties
1. Neb. 0.775 462 132 6
2. OSU 0.758 426 132 11
3. PSU 0.743 434 149 3
4.Texas 0.740 429 148 8
5. 'Bama 0.732 433 155 9
6. Okla. 0.730 423 153 10
7. Mich. 0.727 414 152 10
8. USC 0.722 416 155 16
9. Tenn. 0.693 399 172 17
10. UGA 0.690 395 173 15
11. UF 0.687 397 177 12
12. FSU 0.686 394 176 15

Jeff, it is very impressive that tOSU is at 2. It is not chopped liver that UF is at 11.
Actually, from 1989-2008 (the rather arbitrary 20-year period that you mentioned in your original post), Florida State has the highest winning percentage (.787), followed by Florida (.777) and then Ohio State (.769). The Gators actually take the lead in winning percentage for the periods 1990-2008 and 1991-2008, while the Buckeyes take over the top spot for each of the following periods: 1992-2008; 1993-2008; 1994-2008; 1995-2008; and 1996-2008; with Florida being in second place for each period except 1996-2008, when they fell to third (despite winning an NC that year). So, I guess you could say that the two programs have been more-or-less equal over the past two decades, except that Florida is 3-0 in NC games, and Ohio State is 1-2, with the voters killing their title shots in 1996 and 1998 (in both years, Ohio State won its bowl game and finished #2 in the polls) ... and of course, Florida has a victory in the only head-to-head contest.

So you can say "You are only #11", and it would be true. But we have the last two out of three BCSNC, so it feels better to have that than some wins in the 1960s.
My Buckeye memories go back only to the early 70's, but I'm sure that our older fans still have fond memories of 1968, 1961, 1957, etc. Your point is well taken, nevertheless.

tOSU is fortunate to have both past and current success. I very much appreciate it and respect it. But I respect the wins now more than I respect the wins thirty years ago. And like I said, the list of who is on top of the college football world is changing and not static.
Unlike the rest of the Big Ten, and northern/midwestern schools in general.

From 1933-1960 (28 seasons), the Big Ten won twelve NC's (Minnesota 1934, 1935, 1936, 1940, 1941, 1960; Michigan 1933, 1947, 1948; Ohio State 1942, 1954, 1957), and midwestern schools won an additional eight (Notre Dame 1943, 1946, 1947, 1949, 1953; Pitt 1936, 1937; Michigan State 1952). Taking out the "duplicate" titles (1936 and 1947), that's still 18 NC's in 28 years, which is truly amazing (and Ohio State still got screwed in 1944!).

Since 1960 (49 seasons), the Big Ten has won only five NC's (Ohio State 1968, 2002; Michigan State 1965, 1966; Michigan 1997), with only the Buckeyes' pair being "consensus". Midwestern schools produced seven additional titles (Notre Dame 1966, 1973, 1977, 1988; Penn State 1982, 1986; Pitt 1976). Again, eliminating the "duplicate" title (1966), that's only 11 NC's in 49 years. During the same period, the SEC was won fourteen NC's, and the south has added another nine, for a total of 23 in 49 years, or double what the Big Ten region has produced.

And, to be honest, if somebody was to say that we have no history and are not an elite program, I would just smile and keep on walking.
Okay, I'll give you this - Florida has now passed Miami as the richest of the nouveaux riches.

I just wanted to update those whom I was talking with about tradition and tailgaiting, etc. My girlfriend had a formal this weekend and while we were there I was talking to a guy who has apparently been to tOSU quite often. He agreed that tailgating was phenominal in Columbus. Also a noteable mention was ole miss. Anyways, the point of this is that I will be trying my best to visit Columbus during the 09 season when we have an away game. I feel like it is something I should experience; being the college sports fan that I am!

Bias aside, Clemson has absolutely the friendliest tailgating atmosphere I've encountered. Even prior to my being a tiger, it was something that really lead me to pull for them. Can the same be said for OSU? I would imagine, given the hype, that OSU fans would be just as hospitable.

For instance, if a few friends and I decided to road trip it up there would we be just another face in the crowd? Obviously part of the TG experience is interaction. Thanks for any information.
