Anyone doing the Tough Mudder next weekend in Mansfield? This is my first obstacle course event and I figured I might as do the biggie while my body still lets me.

We had one here in Germany last weekend. I didn't participate for the same reasons I don't drink on New Years or St Patty Day. Amateurs. I hate amateur alcoholics just as much as I hate amateur runners.

It was worth it, but not as impossible as I thought it would be. If I were to do another one I would be doing as many pull-ups as I could every day from now until the event. I could not make it over the Berlin Wall and the monkey bar and rings obstacles were a joke for me as it was so wet I could not get a good grip so I instantly went into the water. I have been doing Insanity for quite some time and my legs were very strong. Also, I would have brought some sort of that goo crap that distance runners eat while running. Their aid stations had water and bananas, and even thought I was hydrated I started to get calf cramps around mile 7.

The mud made it impossible for anyone to do a great time. I cannot imagine another Mudder event being muddier than this one. The guys who were a bunch of pure muscleheads were dragging at Mile 4 and I never saw them again. Either they fall so far behind of just gave up.

I thought about doing the Warrior Dash that will be in August near Akron, but after looking at the obstacles it seems like a joke. Maybe if some friends want to do it, but otherwise.

I have a whole new understanding of what my brother and friends who served went through on a regular basis. Unbelievable. I shared a post on FB with my grade school classmates to see if anyone wanted to do it. Everyone refused except my two active-duty classmates who said they would if they were in town. They weren't and they would have kicked my ass.

Great experience and I might do another one next year, but I hope it is a bit drier.

The boys did not go. They wanted to stay home and one of them was sick so it was a good decision. My younger one wants to do one as soon as he turns 18.

Oh, shoes definitely made the difference yesterday. I had some Salomon (sp?) trail shoes and I only fell once while my teammates were continuously slipping and falling. They all had just regular running shoes and there was no traction for them.
