tOSU vs. Penn State, Wed 1/29 @ 7p ET, BTN

Didn't get to watch the game- was playing in a local league myself tonight.

From some of what I've read here- sounds like what I've complained about all year on D, easy freaking layups. Been complaining about even against the cupcakes. And the offense...lol.

Anyway, the nosedive this team has taken is astounding. I'm at a loss, you guys.

Yeah, they have to stop giving up those easy shots in the paint. The problem is Amir is the only one who can give them any presence inside defensively, and he usually does a poor job of it. They need Myles Turner!

Della Valle was pretty effective and didn't see much action down the stretch or OT. With a team that struggles on O, we need to ride the hot hand a lot more.

Still looking for those lineup tweaks we've all called for. Craft and Scott don't need to be on the court at the same time for any length of time.

I agree. ADV isn't always the hot hand off the bench, but he was worth playing more minutes this game. And I also agree we've got to see less of the Craft-Scott combo. And less Amir, more of the Loving-Ross 4-5 combo.

I'd sit Scott. Usually Matta's best teams have been when he's playing two points, but this year that hasn't worked yet.

start ADV.

I'd sit Scott but start Thompson. And I wouldn't mind giving ADV Scott's minutes off the bench. Scott is having a really bad season for some reason.

In both of Ohio State's OT losses this year Scott just happened to miss a last second layup (vs Sparty) and "bunny" put back shot (vs Ped State) at the end of regulation that would have won the games. He definitely hasn't come though "in the clutch". Also, since the Sparty game, he just doesn't look like he's playing with a lot of confidence; and his shooting percentage has dropped off significantly too.

New to the board, but need to vent somewhere. First, Why can't Craft shoot more...he hits a 3, then never tries another despite being open multiple times. Would someone tell Sam Thompson to quit trying to showboat on every transition break he gets, it's not working and we throw away easy baskets. This team misses so many shots because they become too focused on running the play and allowing their opponent to get set up defensively. Too many of these guys fall asleep on defense. I agree with Maxbuck, the preseason was fool's gold. I think they have the talent, but, struggle to adjust when they get slapped in the face. Matta needs to develop some shorter jump shots, and quit relying on 3's or drives to the basket. Too many of these teams are big, and we cant rely on foul calls to set the pace. Seems that earlier in the year, they were playing at a faster pace...not sure, but when you spend 25 seconds passing the ball around the perimeter then try to dish it to a big guy who by now is triple teamed, the odds are against you. Matta, it's time to review the playbook. This was a huge disappointment !

Scott and Craft should not be on the floor together as it is way too much of an offensive liability. Thomas (and Ross in the tourney) hid that deficiency last year. With no consistent scorer the lack of production from them combined is a huge weakness right now.

I'm with 001... Start Thompson. Other than Ross he's the only one shown that he has confidence in playing inside and outside. Bring ADV off the bench for Thomas or Ross, whomever isn't producing that particular game.

That home loss to Penn State killed our RPI dropped from like 18 to around 34
Right now I'm more concerned about this team getting to 20 wins to keep Matta's streak alive and squeaking its way into the NIT. The only way this team gets to the NCAA is if they win the rest of the regular season games or the Big Ten tournament... and both of those options have very low probablilites.

Agreed. At this point, I'm not sure what Thad sees in Scott that justifies either his position in the starting lineup or the large number of minutes he gets (he played 29 minutes last night)--his shooting has been bad of late (2-8 from the field last night, 3-8 against Illinois, 2-6 against Nebraska, 0-3 against Minnesota, 1-5 against Iowa), and he doesn't seem to be creating much on the defensive end of the floor either. Last night, he played more minutes (29) than Thompson (24), Della Valle (16) and Loving (9). I'd give any of those three more minutes and Scott less.
