tOSU vs. Maryland, Thurs 1/29 @ 7pm ET, ESPN/WatchESPN

Tate, liking what he can bring to the team. This team can be pretty good on offense if he can find a way to contribute consistently and help take some attention away from Russell. Loving definitely benefited from a lack of attention by the Terp defense at times. 3-0 since the lineup changes.

Most complete game we have played by far. Beating NW and IU was big but following it up with thumping MD was absolutely huge. Not only for our resume but for our confidence. We know we get the scoring from Loving but if Tate can continue to give his effort with the offensive boards and quick points, that would be huge. I just love Tate...effort is off the charts and he plays so much bigger than he is...very quick going back up to the rim off a rebound. Also have to throw in that we played GREAT defense tonight...MD not scoring much was not really a matter of not hitting shots...they were almost always contested and we cut off passing lanes really well. Even Amir stayed pretty strong in the post. Only bummer developing is that Kam is flat-out cold...considering he really only contributes in that realm, he could be on the outside looking in for minutes if he does not start hitting shots.

As for Russell, he is just the man...gotta be a top 5 pick. Really dominates in every aspect of the game. But if he is only needing to score around 20 (like he did tonight) in addition to plenty of assists, that is when this team could thrive. In any event, I am cautiously optimistic. We have a pretty weak remaining schedule but if we stay focused and take care of business, peaking right near the conference tourney could mean some good news.

Great game by Loving, high scorer 19 points, including 5-5 from the three.

You have to like his recent improvement, the last 5 games he has been 12-19 from the three.

I'm not so sure that it's improvement as much as it is being a little more selfish with the ball and making himself available. He's been a lights out shooter all season. He simply hasn't shot enough.

The big 3 on this team are Russell, Tate and Loving in terms of offense. If all three of them are working hard to get theirs on the offensive end it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on opposing defenses. Loving stepping it up and executing better on things like the pick and pop is needed. Earlier in the season he was lazy on that. On one sequence last night he screened and didn't come open and came right back and reversed the screen and popped to the open spot for a three. His aggressiveness in rebounding has been on the rise as well. He's had several dunks off of misses in the last few weeks.

I loved Bilas going off on that ridiculous over the back call against SLAM in the first half. That was a highlight reel play.

It didn't change the call, but I love a good rant. :slappy:

Yes, that was classic--I counted 3 times that he said "horrendous," he used "ridiculous" or "absurd" several times, and, to top it off, he said it was "the worst call in the history of basketball."

More Bilas gold was when, with about 2:35 to play in the game and OSU up 23, he said something to the effect of, "if OSU wins this game, and it looks like that will be the case..."

i hear you but at least he is getting some experience this season and it's only his first year of eligibility.

we will probably need him next season in a key role unless Grandstaff and Lyle are good enough to eat up all the SG minutes (i expect Lyle to play primarily in a lead guard role, though).

Watched the game in a bar where the sound was off. Now I'm jealous; had no idea Bilas was doing the color.

I love Bilas.
