Game Thread tOSU vs. Maryland (Homecoming), Sat 10/10 @ 12p ET, BTN

I didn't say the sky was falling. I said it was troubling. Their entire offense was the QBs legs, yet the defense seemed to lose track of him frequently, to the tune of 170 yds on the ground. It's even more troubling on the heels of Zander  also running wild last week.

It's encouraging seeing Barrett fix the arithmetic on offense, Jones settling in, Miller actually being a weapon instead of a negative (primarily because of others in the past), etc. I came away from that game encouraged by the progress. I'm speaking to the reasons why people are concerned (me to a lesser extent).

To even play in Indy (let alone the playoffs), they have to survive Sparty and a surging Michigan program. Right now they find themselves in dogfights with average to terrible football teams. Those matchups don't look very enjoyable for now. Hopefully these are growing pains like last year, though it's concerning that they seem to be starting over when they lost so few parts.

Not calling you out on the "sky is falling" comment, but more so the hundreds of comments from Buckeye Nation posted in the comments sections on facebook, or the Twitter warriors that think the team is terrible.

Sorry, but I don't see why anyone should be thinking the MSU game will be as difficult as we thought in the offseason. MSU barely got by Purdue, and then scraped by Rutgers. It's not as if they are lighting it up either.

TTUN is playing great defense, but it's offense still struggles. 28-0 looked great on paper vs maryland, but let's not forget that their rb couldn't get over 100 on the ground, Rudock had a very average 1:1 TD-INT ratio, no receivers top 100 yards, and they only managed 3 Offensive scores all game long. Yes, TTUN looks pretty solid, but I'm not going to say that we will struggle with them.

I had to DVR the game due to travel.
However, I have to say that I'm feeling very positive after this game (unlike the last few). I enjoyed the Offensive diversity, the Special Teams, the lack of turnovers, and while the D was porous at times, there were so many positives. Joey played his ass off and made direct and indirect impacts. Others are entitled to be peeved or disappointed, but I really liked what I saw.

I sat in C-deck yesterday. I got hear the Victory Bell ring and I got to sing Carmen Ohio at the end of the game with a smile on my face. I'm disappointed that in order to get to that point I had to put up with 3-1/2 hours of being among people who did more complaining than cheering.

Not gonna catch up on this thread or any of the others. I started enjoying this season more when I took a cue from Coach Meyer and stopped giving a fuck what any of you think.

It's not personal. Well, it is with some of you, LOL.

Sounds to me, based off of that explanation that the issue has to do more with the fans expectations rather than the teams execution...

You are absolutely on to something.

It's everyone's (even UFM and some of the team members) expectations and perceptions coming into the season - like how we were told they had a roster full of NFL talent and how they might be the best team every and yadda yadda yadda - that's all well and good until the games start and you're getting everyone's best shot.

A team full of NFL bodies is great, but until they build that cohesion as a team and not just a gaggle of individuals, they have to get by almost entirely on talent and wishful thinking. They have. They've survived when other teams have fallen by the wayside.

Fuck it. It's October now. The pretenders are gone, everyone still standing is a contender whether ESECSECSECPN talking heads or Stewie Mandel or whoever else like it or not.

Sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride. This sport is only played for 4 months out of the year.

I hated the piece ESPN did on Zeke this offseason. I know he didn't let it go to his head, but it'seems just a shining example of how much hype surrounded this team going into this year.

I think the big takeaways from yesterday's game are:

1. Third-down efficiency UP

2. Red zone efficiency WAY UP

3. Penalties DOWN

4. ZERO turnovers, +2 turnover margin

The defense still needs to tighten up in a few areas, but there's enough talent on that side of the ball to progress throughout the season.

Defense was in the right places most of the game they just needed to stop going for the fucking runningback every play in the 2nd half when given the choice instead of the QB who had made it clear by that point he was keeping it 80+% of the time
