Game Thread tOSU @ Virginia Tech, Sep 7 2015 @ 8pm ET, ESPN

I believe the Buckeyes are going to have a convincing win vs. Va Tech. But I don't think it will be the beatdown we all want it to be for one reason: CFB teams in general, and OSU in particular, do not usually look like world-beaters in the first game of the year. The mistake we are inclined to make is assuming that the team that rolled Oregon in Jan is the same team that is going to show up in Blacksburg in Sept. It's not. There will be first game execution mistakes, and this will be a different team with different pressures and expectations on it. I do think this team has fewer question marks going in, but there will still be kinks that will have to be worked out.

Fortunately for our Buckeyes, the same will be true for the Hokies. In the end OSU wins by 3 TD's, but the discussion in the media will be that Ohio State looks vulnerable. I don't care. Win, get the h out of there, and continue to work toward being the best team in Nov, Dec, and Jan.
Have to agree. I think everyone starts even with mistakes on both sides of the ball with a tied/close game late in the second quarter. Then at the end of the second or early third we go nuts on offense and the d finds their groove. We allow no more than 7 pts in second half with a 20 pt+/- win.

It's also the first game for VaTech. The talent gap is significant. The OSU OL has grown from the second-most inexperience OL in the entire country struggling with the "bear front" to one that ranks among the best and tenacious in college football. If you don't think Meyer and the entire team has had this game circled since about 30 minutes after last year's game, you may want to rethink that. They have a serious score to settle, and Meyer's good teams have a habit to being able to do that (see Florida's 49-10 curb stomping of Georgia in 2008 after losing 42-30 the previous year).

I think it will be close in the first half, then talent and conditioning takes over. I, along with every Buckeye fan, player, and coach wants us to destroy them. And we just might. It really helps to not have to face them one week after preparing all year for Navy (thanks again Gene). But with a night game and home field advantage (plus they will be ready for the game, they know we're coming in pissed off), I just don't think it will be a waltz from the start.

We will settle that score no doubt but if Zeke goes for 250 against this type of defense we will have great things heading our way this next season because I just don't see us getting those type of numbers on that defense.
Both Wisconsin and Alabama had significantly better defenses, especially against the run.

agreed though I doubt we see a repeat of that performance against VA Tech. Braxton is going to get yards somehow and there's still a chance that Barrett starts, further cutting into Zeke's productivity.

If Farris is ready and if the other Dt can hold up inside, they should roll the Hokies. If Rt remains green against an active and aggressive Hoke front and If VT is able to pound it inside, then it's a very different than story.

Wisconsin started gashing osu on the ground when they brought in Carter. They picked up about three first downs and then he was replaced. Naturally munger, hale and Schutt are better players but it's still a sign of how severe the dropoff was after Bennett and Diesel.

Not saying we're going to put up 550 yards on them, but 40+ points should all be expected. We should've had 30+ points last year if not for numerous drops. Also, I don't see Miller as the starter, and if Barrett starts the implied reduction in Zeke's productivity should be offset by Barrett's running.

VT doesn't have anyone in the same galaxy as Melvin Gordon...
