2024 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

As much as this class was an overwhelming success, we seem to continue to miss on extremely important positions via recruiting and the transfer portal. Offensive Line, Safety, DE, and linebacker come to mind. Not sure if it's NIL or what but not going to win many championships without solid o line play.

We'll have our collaboration in the BRPT recruiting thread, but that will generally be my review. OL was fine. DL was terrible, not even an argument there. LB under our scheme was very good, love Pierce and Stover. Safety was very underwhelming, but the portal is ripe for that position. Really it's the OL/DL recruiting that is a problem.

Interesting DL recruiting notes from Birm.

Ohio State may have offered Dominic Kirks today, but they did not send him a letter of intent. Birm believes Ohio State prefers Kirks waits until February to sign, so they can evaluate his athleticism during basketball season. Kirks's football tape has been a little hit or miss because of injuries and moving schools.

Dominick McKinley is one to watch. He will not be signing until February, and Ohio State has brought much more NIL firepower recently. A chance they can convince him to go away from home.

Wait until 2nd portal opening for movement.

Change just for the sake of change is rarely a successful path.

being all in on the portal to save a position group on your roster isn’t the most optimal strategy known to mankind either.

OL and DL talent acquisition needs to improve.

I actually like the O linemen in this class. We didn't get that big name like Baker but the 4 coming in are players and I don't see a reach in any of them. Overall I think you're right but I'm not disappointed in the Oline we signed.

I feel like if you have to watch someone during their basketball season to see if they have the athleticism you want - they don't have it. You're trying to find something to convince yourself, but there isn't going to be a leap in 6 weeks of a senior basketball season to prove something football related at an OSU level.

Ohio State officially signed 20 players on National Signing Day.
No. 1 overall prospect Jeremiah Smith submitted his National Letter of Intent at 10 p.m. to wrap up a chaotic day for Ohio State, which ultimately signed everyone it was expected to sign entering the day except for four-star wide receiver Jeremiah McClellan, who flipped to Oregon.
Although there’s still another signing day to come in February, the Early Signing Period is when most of the top recruits across the country sign with their respective school. Of the top 100 recruits in 247Sports' composite rankings, 93 signed on Wednesday and five of the seven that didn't sign are at least already committed.
