2022 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Ohio State has an inside-out approach in recruiting, targeting in-state talent to bring into the class first to establish momentum, and then it branches out nationally. That’s been on display in the 2022 cycle with two Ohioans coming into the class (Tegra Tshabola, C.J. Hicks) and another (Jyaire Brown) who is a native of the state as well.

Larry Johnson has a similar approach when it comes to recruiting his defensive linemen. The longtime defensive line coach told Eleven Warriors in December that he zeroes in on the DMV area for targets – using his incredibly strong roots in the area that dates back to his time as a Maryland and Virginia high school coach in the 70s, 80s and 90s – and then spreads out.

Larry Johnson offers three more DL in Derrick Moore, Mykel Williams and Kenyatta Jackson

The 2022 Ohio class will be closely evaluated this fall after losing out on camp season this summer. Westerville (Ohio) South wide receiver Kaden Saunders remains a name to watch in that class.

The Central Ohio speedster has continued to pick up some big offers during the shutdown, most recently Stanford and Texas.

Saunders last spoke to Ohio State area recruiter Al Washington a few weeks ago. The Buckeyes will continue to evaluate him this fall.

"Coach Washington said that he really likes me," Saunders explained. "He wants me to send some video of some drills to coach Hartline. I think they're just going to wait until the season and see how I do."

Medina quarterback Drew Allar is one of the top 2022 prospects in the state of Ohio and he already holds a handful of offers, including Pittsburgh.

He is also receiving interest from such schools as Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa State, and others.

Allar (6-4, 208-pounds) didn't become a starter until late in his sophomore season but he played in every game for Medina and led them into the playoffs.

In a first-round loss to powerhouse Lakewood St. Edward, Allar threw for 347-yards and four touchdowns.

He was in action last Sunday in Akron working out with quarterback guru Brad Maendler and Allar showed off the skills that should see his offer list expanding going forward.

Here is video of Allar from last Sunday:

OK, I wonder where he got his T-shirt.....
