2021 tOSU Recruiting Discussion

Birm’s latest pretty much confirms what we all knew, the covid dead period cost Ohio State Latham, Burton, Wolfe and Hancock.

But with losing Wolfe, shouldnt be seen as more of a luxury to get him? Its not a secret that OSU doesn't fully utilize the position, so if we were unable to land a non elite kid, getting a lesser known recruit(preferably a bigger kid, who can be a leaner version of an OT, but still have good enough hands to move the chains when called upon) shouldnt hurt us much from a game/team perspective.

This. I was thinking essentially the same thing.

SKULL SESSION: AARON CRAFT'S BASKETBALL CAREER WILL END IN COLUMBUS, OHIO STATE'S RECRUITING DOMINANCE VISUALIZED, AND DILLON DINGLER DOESN'T MIND HIS SECOND-ROUND SLIP

DOMINANCE, VISUALIZED.
Ohio State's 2021 class is shaping up to be absolutely legendary in a way that words can't adequately express, so data-visualizer Marcus Horton displayed it in a way that's meaningful even to my shriveled acorn brain.

So basically, Ryan Day is lapping everybody on the recruiting trail right now, and anybody with eyes and a brain can see that by looking at those visuals. And there's a solid chance that gap between the Buckeyes and everyone else just keeps getting bigger.

Folks, I'm beginning to think Ohio State might be good for the next few years. Maybe even longer!

Hope state of Ohio is ready to pass similar laws as Florida, otherwise we will start having some difficulties.

Starting next summer, all Florida colleges will have athletes that can profit off their image and take endorsements. Huge recruiting edge if Ohio isn’t there yet......

Is there a current law that prevents them from doing so? I don't think so.

What was limiting student-athletes was NCAA rules, not state law. Non-issue IMO.

It is slightly more complicated. Yes there are laws against it.

For example, in a majority of states in US, including Ohio, if an amateur takes 3rd party money, they are no longer an amateur.

The situation with Zion Williamson and Duke is a great case study in this. Zion says his initial contract with first agent is null and void because they discarded NC law that would’ve made him ineligible. However, the agency is saying you were never technically able to play at Duke because you weren’t an amateur.....you were taking money from Nike. You weren’t a college amateur.

Bottom line, states need to adapt amateurism laws to protect college athletes getting paid $$$$. Florida has cleared it........I just hope we don’t miss a recruiting cycle because the state has missed the boat on college athletes being able to do car commercials.

I think Ohio's law addresses agency, though. I just glossed it here, but if there's no agent involved I don't know that Ohio law forbids what's now been allowed by the NCAA.

Let's do the math: If Ohio State lands Tuimoloau, Egbuka, Davis and Malone, it would have 23 commitments in its 2021 class for a score of 323.18, per the 247Sports class calculator. Incredibly, despite that being possibly the best-case realistic scenario, it still wouldn't alone be enough to top 2010 Florida's score of 324.62.

Re: 247 usually updates their rankings in December after the Junior season, in February after signing day for the previous class, in April after most of the camps are done, in August after The Opening Finals, in December after the Senior season, and then the final update in late January after the all-star games.

Yeah, but the current points aren't the points that will ultimately determine the best recruiting class. 24/7 updates the rankings/points every so often and the last ranking in late January is the one that counts?

This is a brief recap I found in the 11W forum of a BG blast. Paraphrasing, but here goes...
1.JK Johnson will be our next #1 DB draft choice.
2.Egbuka is IN. J.T.is in. Small but obvious distinction.
3.J.Johnson is the next Darron Lee and J.Dunn may be the next Hooker.
4.J.Hancock is IN if he visits...from the moment the plane lands in Columbus.

Supposedly alot more behind the paywall, but I don't link to pay sites, You can see what I
saw at the 11W recruiting forum.

In the latest article on 247 about WR’s it has Egbuka listed as the top dog but also has Jayden Ballard as a rising prospect. They mention he will rise more than 50 spaces in their next rankings from 108 into the top 50. Mention his ability to explode out of cuts and his verified 10.89 100m time as a sophomore.

There's a few that I think are in if they visit. Does Hancock also play with Barret as well?
